Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra tied the knot in 2015, and welcomed their daughter Hinaya in 2016. Geeta, in a recent interview, opened up about the two miscarriages she went through after giving birth to her daughter and how that took a toll on her emotional and physical health. Geeta also spoke about Harbhajan’s support during this phase and how he stood beside her like a rock, even though he is an extremely emotional person.
In a chat with Hauterrfly, Geeta shared that she always wanted two kids, and since her first pregnancy was fairly smooth, she did not expect any obstacles in the second one. “I tried twice and I had two miscarriages and it was a very very difficult time because you feel like, ‘I am fit, I am doing yoga, I am eating right so what can possibly go wrong, like why could I not hold the baby? Why was I miscarrying?’” she shared.
Geeta said that she was shocked when this happened and recalled, “But when it happened, it kind of hit me and it kind of took me back and I thought that ‘Wow, I never expected this because it was so easy with Hinaya’.” She said that she did not have any complications during her first baby and had a smooth and easy pregnancy, but “when I got pregnant three years after and I miscarried, I was not expecting that.”
She shared that losing a child is “hard” but one has to be “mentally strong.” She also spoke about Harbhajan’s support during this phase and shared, “When I had the first miscarriage, he was in Punjab so he flew in the next day. I had to have a minor procedure in the hospital so he was there through that.”
In an earlier chat with BHARTI TV, Geeta recalled her love story with Harbhajan, “He was very clear. He saw my poster, and it was probably love at first sight for him. He asked Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) for my number. Obviously, Yuvi has a lot of friends.”
She added, “For him, it was love at first sight. But I took 10 months to say yes. I told him the day you’d score 300 wickets, I’d say yes. A couple of days later, he got 300 wickets. So I said let’s give it a shot. Because all my friends told me he’s a very good guy. He’s a star, but doesn’t have the attitude of a star. He’s humble. He’s also a Punjabi like me. That matters a lot because he can gel with my family, like my nani (maternal grandmother) who speaks only in Punjabi.”
