Gaurav Taneja, who is popular for his YouTube channel Beast Life, recently appeared on Shark Tank India with his co-founder Raj as they presented their protein powder business. The appearance did not fructify in any deals and it looked like Gaurav was quite disappointed with his interaction with Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal on the show. Now, Raj, who has the smallest equity in the company out of the three co-founders, has said that the company did not see much growth in sales after their episode streamed on SonyLIV, but they witnessed a massive jump in traffic after their pitch was uploaded on YouTube. He also confessed that he convinced Gaurav to go on Shark Tank for some free marketing.

In a chat shared on Ayushman Pandita’s YouTube channel, Raj said that they were doing monthly nett sales of Rs 2.5 crore before they went on Shark Tank. He said that after the episode, the traffic on their website increased 2x but the increase in sales was just 1.4x or 1.5x. But after their pitch was uploaded on YouTube, they saw a massive jump in traffic and sales. “After our episode came on YouTube, we got 6x traffic,” he said and added, “The sales went up 3x.” Gaurav Taneja is primarily an influencer with over 9 million followers on YouTube.

Raj sounded disappointed that Shark Tank India was not a television show anymore and said that they “went on Shark Tank because we wanted to get the television audience.” “The impact of television was crazy. People still watch TV in tier-3 and tier-4 cities,” he said. Raj said that Gaurav wasn’t keen on participating on Shark Tank India as he could foresee the kind of questions that would be asked of him. During the episode, Gaurav was questioned about his personal income, since he uses his YouTube channel for marketing, and his other businesses as well, and he did not give clear answers to these questions. Raj said that he convinced Gaurav to participate so they could just get some “free marketing.” “‘Thodi free ki marketing milegi, paise mil jayenge toh aur achi baat hai‘ so I pushed Gaurav,” he said.
