Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer Gadar 2 is starting to slow down at the box office in its third week, after amassing over Rs 450 crore domestically. On its third Monday, director Anil Sharma’s blockbuster film saw a significant fall in collections. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Gadar 2 earned somewhere around Rs 4.5 crore on Monday, which marks an over 60% drop from its third Sunday collection of Rs 16.1 crore.
The overall occupancy of the film in the Hindi market was 17.86%. Currently, the nett domestic collection of Gadar 2 stands at Rs 460.55 crore. It still needs another Rs 82.5 cr to beat Pathaan’s all-time record as Bollywood’s biggest film. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer earned Rs 543.05 crore in India upon its release in January this year.
However, Gadar 2 recently broke Pathaan’s record by becoming the fastest film to breach the Rs 450 crore mark at the box office. It also became the third-highest grossing Hindi movie of all time. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Crosses KGF 2, next Baahubali 2… After crossing *lifetime biz* of #Dangal, #Gadar2 overtakes #KGF2 #Hindi… #Gadar2 is now third highest grossing #Hindi film in #India… Continues to smash #BO records at mass sectors…” He also noted that the film has started its “triumphant” run towards the coveted Rs 500 crore mark.
Amid the Gadar 2 mania, the other Bollywood releases, OMG 2 and Dream Girl 2, are also thriving at the box office. OMG 2, which was released alongside Gadar 2 on August 11, has earned Rs 137.07 crore so far. This week’s new release, Dream Girl 2, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, comfortably minted Rs 40.71 crore within the first three days of release.
Anil Sharma recently spoke about filmmakers fudging box office numbers of their films to portray them as hits. He also said Gadar 2’s figures are absolutely real. “What’s happening these days is, and it is a very sad thing, that sometimes a film doesn’t become a hit, so the makers give fake numbers, buy tickets themselves and do a lot of other things to make their brand. But the audience feels cheated. That is damaging, because when another film comes, the audience doesn’t turn up. They feel, ‘Ye sab jhoote log hai, fake log hai‘,” Sharma told Puja Talwar.
