Choreographer Farah Khan recently admitted in one of her vlogs that she rejected actor Shilpa Shirodkar for Dil Se’s “Chhaiya Chhaiya” because to her, it looked like Shilpa was “100 kilos.” Now, Farah shot a new vlog with Shilpa where she discussed the subject again and promised Shilpa that she would definitely cast her if they ever made “Chhaiya Chhaiya 2”.
The new vlog had Farah, along with her cook Dilip, visiting Shilpa’s home. As Farah praised her appearance, Shilpa reminded her of her recent statement where Farah claimed that “Shilpa was at least 100 kilos. So I thought ‘how will she get on the train?’ And if she gets on, where will Shah Rukh stand?” The women laughed off the comment and Farah promised her “Chhaiya Chhaiya 2”, if it ever gets made. “I will be on the train and there will be dancers and Shah Rukh,” Shilpa laughed.
Farah, in the same chat, recalled that Shilpa was known for doing rain songs in the 1990s and it used to be a running joke that Shilpa always beings her rain machine and water tanker wherever she goes. Farah also added that she felt very guilty when Shilpa spoke about getting rejected for the song. Soon after, Farah brought up Shilpa’s weight again and said, “I was thinking how will she get on the train? And if she gets on the train, then where will Shah Rukh go?” Shilpa recalled that even though Farah rejected her, she gave her the grace of 15 days to work on her body. “Then you did come and you said ‘it doesn’t look like there is much difference’,” Shilpa recalled.
Recently, Shilpa appeared on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel where she shared that she was rejected because she was “fat.” “I didn’t get it because I was fat. They just said that I am fat,” she said and added, “I will always feel bad that I didn’t get ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’ but God gave me much more and he is still giving me.”
