Fanney Khan movie release Highlights: Celebs laud Anil Kapoor’s film

Director Atul Manjrekar shared, "This film and its story are made for Anil Kapoor. He is just the perfect fit for Fanney Khan and he was always the first choice for it. I have written this script keeping Anil sir in mind."

"Fanney Khan is one character that I have resonated with the most so far. Not only do I identify with his struggles, but I also relate to his passion and his relationship with his daughter. This character's journey is similar to mine in many ways. I may not have played a taxi driver on-screen before, but I've played many characters who have risen from the ground up through sheer will and determination. But everything about Fanney Khan, his dream and his drive to overcome every obstacle, is special to me. He doesn't let his circumstances get in the way of his destiny, and that is something we can all learn from. It doesn't matter where we start, as long as we do," Anil Kapood said in a statement.

I’ve just finished watching Fanney Khan, and am still in shock. Not in a good way, though. That a film starring a bunch of our top star-actors can be so off the mark is a sobering, dismal thought: this Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai-Rajkummar Rao concoction, based on a Belgian film Everybody’s Famous, is unbelievably awful.

Anil Kapoor on his Fanney Khan co-star Rajkummar Rao, “I’m doing two films with him. It’s been a pleasure to work with him. One is Fanney Khan and the other one is Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Somewhere I feel if these two didn’t have Rajkummar, I wouldn’t have enjoyed doing it so much. Because, now for me, it’s more about the journey on a film’s set. I need to work with good people. I feel this was God’s blessing that both the films had Rajkummar."

Anil Kapoor on Fanney Khan, “When I watched the Belgian film, I couldn’t understand the language, but I had a lump in my throat. I usually don’t get so touched while watching a film but the whole body shaming aspect and the father-daughter relationship drew me in. I have not watched something like this in Indian cinema. So, I grabbed the opportunity of playing a father that can do anything to fulfill his daughter’s dream of being a singing star.”

Rajkummar Rao says, "I have this man crush on Anil Kapoor. He is the most good looking man I have seen. Also, after working with him in two films, Fanney Khan and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, I am like in awe of him, his energy, his giving attitude. He is full of heart and there’s nothing impure about him. I have experienced his commitment first hand on the sets."

Trade analysts Girish Johar told indianexpress.com, “As of now, Fanney Khan is expected to lead on Friday. Since the film is packed with an ensemble cast including Anil, Rajkummar, Aishwarya and Divya Dutta who all are a powerhouse of acting, it will attract more audience. It might open with a collection of Rs 2.5 crore on its first day.”

Recalling an interaction with Anil Kapoor at the beginning of his career, Shah Rukh Khan said, "He was so kind to me. For one or two hours, he kept on sitting with me, chatting with me and kept on telling me 'Tu kar yaar, picture mein kaam kar!' So, at times like these when you're trying out, when you're new, little source of encouragement or apnapan.
