Ed Sheeran recalls visiting Arijit Singh’s hometown in West Bengal: ‘We scooted around the village to see the sunset and moon’

Ed Sheeran shares how Arijit Singh became a part of his song 'Sapphire'. Sheeran revealed that he played an early version of the song for Singh when they shared the stage in London.

Ed Sheeran, who dropped his new track “Sapphire” three days ago, has posted a long note on his Instagram handle sharing how exactly he met Arijit Singh and decided to collaborate for the song.

Sharing a video of the two wandering the streets of West Bengal on a scooter, Ed Sheeran wrote, “I first became aware of @arijitsingh music when i watched Aashiqui 2 and heard Tum Hi Ho. I was proper spellbound by his voice, the song, the scene in the movie. I checked him out, and got in touch, and said whenever you wanna sing together I’m down. He was playing in London, so i went to guest with him and sing Perfect there, it was an incredible show.”

It was during the same meeting when Ed Sheeran played an early version of Sapphire for Arijit Singh. “He instantly had ideas for instruments and melodies. We then were pen pals over email for a bit, until I was in India for tour.”

During his India tour, Ed Sheeran decided to finish their song in person when Arijit Singh invited him to his hometown.

The singer further wrote, “I was with my dad on tour, which is a rarity to get so much one on one time with him. Me and him got a flight to Kolkata, then a 5 and a half hour drive to his home town. We arrived, went on a barge down the river which was stunning, then got a scooty back to the studio where we finished the song. Arijit taught me Punjabi and how to pronounce it all properly, and showed me Sitar. We then had dinner, and scooted around the village to see the sunset and moon with my dad. was a proper core memory i’l always cherish with my father, and i’m honoured to have created in this way with Arijit.”

Calling him one of the most talented humans ever, Ed Sheeran said he is grateful that Arijit Singh agreed to collaborate with him for his song “Sapphire”.

In the note, Ed also shared a surprise for his fans. He wrote, “The full Punjabi version we recorded will be out in a couple of weeks, but until then I’ll be drip-feeding fun videos from our time together. enjoy!”

Ed Sheeran’s “Sapphire” has garnered over 15 million views in just three days of its release.
