Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has always kept his family out of the limelight, even avoiding discussions about them during interviews. However, the “Lover” singer recently introduced his mother and sister to the world at his concert in Manchester, UK. In the past, Diljit has maintained that he keeps his family away from the spotlight to ensure their safety.
In a heartwarming moment captured in a viral video from his concert, Diljit walks toward an elderly woman while singing his emotional hit “Haas Haas”. As he croons the lines, “Dil tenu de ditta main taan soneya, Jaan tere kadma ch rakhi hoyi ae (I have given you my heart and dedicate my life at your feet),” he introduces her to the audience, saying, “This is my mom.” With great affection, he lifts her hand, raises it in the air, and bows down in respect. Diljit’s gesture brought tears to his mother’s eyes as she looked at her son, leading them both to embrace amid cheers from the crowd. Diljit then turns to point out his sister, who stands next to their mother, cheering for him, and adds, “And this is my sister.” Take a look:
He added, “I used to stay alone in a small room. I used to just go to school and come back, there wasn’t any TV. I had a lot of time. Also, we didn’t have mobile phones back then, even if I had to call home or receive a call from my parents, it cost us money. So I started becoming distant from my family.”
Speaking about his parents, Diljit said, “I respect my mother a lot. My father is a very sweet person. He did not ask me anything. He did not even ask which school I studied. But my connection with them broke. Not just with them, with everyone.”
Born in the village of Dosanjh Kalan in 1984, Diljit Dosanjh’s father, Balbir Singh, worked as a bus driver with Punjab Roadways. His parents sent him to live with his uncle, Davinder Singh Sodhi, a well-known raagi (hymn singer). Soon after, Diljit began to accompany him on the tabla and even hummed along. Later, he started performing at local events while still in school in Ludhiana.
