A Dibakar Banerjee film comes with multiple battles, starting from the basic: getting a producer on board. The filmmaker says he is happy that he has found a collaborator in Ekta Kapoor, who produced his Love Sex Aur Dhoka and is back again with him for its sequel.

Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2 is gearing for a theatrical release on April 18. The film is a sequel to Dibakar’s 2010 anthology found footage drama. In an interview with Film Companion, Dibakar was asked about his collaboration with Ekta, two “distinct” individuals.

“I have no idea why Ekta backs me.  She knows she is not going to make too much of money, she knows it is going to be a very hard sell. She knows it that she will have to bundle it with many things and really market it in a way that the project remains what it is. And the fact that Ekta knows subversion, so probably from that point of view she backs me,” he said.

Dibakar said for the kind of films he makes; he is glad he has always found support in the form of producers who are willing to back his vision despite less commercial prospects.

“A filmmaker like me, who has made Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Shanghai, kuch na kuch bana ke zinda hai, that itself is a miracle, so don’t ask. I am grateful that there are people like this deeply in the commercial world… who want to keep doing stuff like this. I am not questioning, jo ho raha hai, achcha ho raha hai,” he added.

Dibakar and Ekta had also visited Bigg Boss to promote Love Sex Aur Dhoka 2. During the interview, the filmmaker was asked about his experience of being on the Salman Khan hosted reality show.

“There was Ekta and an invisible magnetic chord attached to her. Wherever she went, I went there, wherever she stood, I stood there. So that was lovely. But Ekta told me, ‘Sir, aap mat bolna!’ It is a Bigg Boss announcement, we are talking about casting, that world, it is a part of LSD 2, the film, she knows that. But the moment it happened, the next day my recognition in the elevator increased.

“The liftman tells you, ‘Aapko dekha Bigg Boss mein, aapki koi film aa rahi hai? Bohot achcha laga.’ Then you get messages from people that they saw you on the show! Everybody saw it!”

The upcoming film also stars Anu Malik, Tushar Kapoor, Sophie Choudry, Mouni Roy and others in cameo roles. The film will be released in theatres on April 19th.
