Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s box office collection on day five has sealed the film’s fate, which has looked gloomy ever since its opening on Thursday. It’s game over for the big-budget Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff-starrer, after the action film crashed on Monday after the four-day extended Eid holiday weekend. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected a mere Rs 2.50 cr on Monday, a dismal figure that indicates no sign of recovery.
The Monday collections came despite offers at select cinemas where tickets were priced at Rs 127. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has so far netted Rs 43.40 cr across India, against a reported budget of Rs 350 crore. Prior to the film’s release, producer Vashu Bhagnani had claimed that it would gross Rs 1,100 crore worldwide.
The film was also released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, the combined collections of which are under Rs 4 cr in five days. Even though official worldwide figures are awaited, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan has probably hit the Rs 100 crore mark, as its four-day global collections stood at Rs 96 crore.
An actioner like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan should have opened at a figure over Rs 40 cr, especially considering Akshay and Tiger’s presence, and the fact that it has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, known for hits like Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai. The five-day total of the film was in fact the one-day total of his last theatrical, Salman Khan-starrer Bharat, which opened at Rs 42 cr during Eid.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Bade Miya Chote Miyan is now poised to emerge as “one of the biggest disasters of Hindi Cinema”, incurring “staggering losses” as it was mounted on a budget of over Rs 350 crores. At the current trend, the film is likely to wrap its lifetime collection in the range of Akshay Kumar’s historical drama Samrat Prithviraj, which bombed at Rs 68 cr.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan clashed at the box office with Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidan, which is also struggling. With the exception of Sooryavanshi and OMG 2, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is Akshay Kumar’s seventh flop at the box office in the post-pandemic era, as the actor struggles to get his mojo back. Similarly, this is Tiger Shroff’s third consecutive misfire after Heropanti 2 and Ganapath.
