Anurag Kashyap recently spoke about how it was initially difficult for him to get his films to cinema halls, and once people got to see them legally or illegally, they questioned his ‘morality and character’. The filmmaker also shared that he will never receive a National Award since he has ‘fought’ with all the governments.

On being told by Cyrus Broacha on his podcast Cyrus Says, that most of his films, which couldn’t make it to the silver screen, were released on piracy websites, Anurag agreed, “That’s the story of my life.” The director also said that he earned one-eighth of what he should have earned because most of his films were released illegally on piracy websites.

He said, “People used to walk up to me and say, ‘Aapki film dekhi (Saw your film)’ and I used to be like ‘Lekin kahan dekhi (But where did you watch it)?’ I used to identify with porn in the sense that I was like porn; people watched my films secretly.”

After watching his films, Anurag shared, people questioned his “morality and character”. He said, “At that time, the critics used to be like, ‘What kind of a guy is this?’.

Anurag Kashyap has always been vocal about the government whenever he felt it threatened to take away his rights as a citizen. Because of this habit, he believes he will never win any National Award. During the interview, Anurag said, “I will never get a National award. I have fought with every government.” He added that he won’t ever stop fighting since he has learnt how to fight. “You learn over a period of time how to fight. Because you can actually fight. Because censors actually cannot cut down your film. They are not allowed to,” said the Kennedy director.
