Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actor Zeeshan Ayyub, who are currently promoting their latest release Haddi starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui have opened up about their experience of working with Kangana Ranaut in the past. Zeeshan and Kangana have shared the screen in films like Tanu Weds Manu (2011), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015) and Manikarnika (2019).

In a chat with Jist,  Zeeshan said, “There was a time when Kangana as an actor, was superlative.” To this, Anurag added, “She is the finest actor. She is very sincere when it comes to work, there are other problems that she has. However, when it comes to her talent, nobody can snatch that away from her.”

“What she has in herself, as an actor, as a sincere critique also, but yes, it is very difficult to deal with her,” the filmmaker added.

Anurag and Kangana collaborated on Queen (2013). The film was helmed under Phantom Films which was co-owned by Anurag, along with Vikramaditya Motwane, Madhu Mantena and Queen director Vikas Bahl. However, in the last few years Kangana and Anurag have not worked together. In fact, the director had once revealed that the actor had rejected Saandh Ki Aankh when he offered it to her. The film eventually starred Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar.

A few years ago Anurag had taken to social media and said that he doesn’t know the “new Kangana”. In a series of tweets, Anurag had talked about Kangana and how she has changed in the past few years. In his tweets, Anurag had written, “He wrote, “Kal Kangana ka interview dekha. Ek samay main meri bahut achchi dost hua karti thi. Meri har film pe aake mera hausla badhati thi. Lekin iss nayi Kangana ko main nahi jaanta. Aur uska yeh darawana interview bhi dekha jo Manikarnika ki release ke bilkul baad ka hai (I saw Kangana’s interview last night. She used to be a really good friend of mine. She would always motivate me for my films. But I don’t know this new Kangana. I saw a frightening interview of her which was recorded after the release of Manikarnika.) (sic).”

He had also called Kangana out for her jingoistic approach towards patriotism. Writing in Hindi, he tweeted, “Only you can save us, sister — the one true Manikarnika. Take four or five people with you and fight China. See how far inside our territory they’ve come. Show them that India has nothing to worry about until such time as you’re there to protect us. The LAC is just a day’s journey from your house. Go, our tigress. Jai Hind.”

Responding to Anurag, Kangana had posted, “I am a warrior. I can allow my head to be severed, but won’t bow it. I will always raise my voice for the honour of my nation. I live with honour, respect, self-respect and will live proudly as a nationalist! I will never compromise with my principles. I will never do it! Jai Hind.”
