Here is yet another filmmaker who landed in trouble with the Service Tax Department after Samir Karnik. Anurag Kashyap is the next on the list for service tax evasion. News is that, the filmmaker will now have to return to Mumbai, leaving the shoot of his upcoming film Bombay Velvet in Sri Lanka by September 3.
Apparently,a team from the Service Tax Department carried out an investigation at the filmmaker’s Yari road office in Mumbai in August and later charged him guilty for service tax evasion of Rs. 55 lakh. Based on this, the director/producer was asked to appear before the Service Tax Department on August 22,but he failed to do so and instead, sent his representatives to deal with the matter. Hence, his accounts were sealed and now Anurag has requested for some time till September 3.
Deputy Commissioner of Service Tax Department,Sameer Wankhede also revealed that a case has been booked against Anurag and they are investigating further into this matter. With all the ongoing legal tangles,Anurag’s film Bombay Velvet might also receive a setback.
