Anil Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap played the lead roles in the 2020 film AK vs AK. The Vikramaditya Motwane directorial, which utilised a film within a film concept, had a direct-to-OTT release on Netflix during the COVID-19 pandemic.
After nearly four years, Anil has finally spoken about doing a film as a parallel lead. Speaking to Times of India, the actor said people were shocked seeing him do AK vs AK. During the interview, the veteran actor revealed that Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who had signed him for Animal, was taken aback after he signed AK vs AK. The filmmaker thought the film will kill the veteran actor’s stardom.
However that didn’t stop the actor from doing the movie. He said there was also a set of people who loved the film and Danny Boyle even sent him a long message, appreciating his work.
Anil Kapoor shared that not all projects are done for money, sometimes people do things for passion as well. Taking example of today’s lead actors, Anil Kapoor shared that leading men these days hesitate to do parallel leads. The star questioned if every actor will begin to think like that how will they ever do a film like Sholay, noting that an attitude like that will ensure actors miss out on good roles.
Anil Kapoor also cited the example of Oppenheimer and pondered would the film happen in the first place if every actor desired to play Cillian Murphy’s role. He shared there were actors like Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon, who have done parallel leads in the film and were yet praised for their work.
Taking his own example, the actor shared that he did a small part in Slumdog Millionaire because he received an opportunity to do something different, adding it also bagged him the opportunity to work with Danny Boyle.
Anil Kapoor was last seen in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal.
