Veteran actor Anil Dhawan talks about his life after the release of his comeback film Andhadhun with a childlike glee. The actor, who made a smashing return to the big screen in the acclaimed Sriram Raghavan directorial, said the 2018 black comedy thriller re-introduced him to a new generation of audience.
In Andhadhun, Dhawan played Pramod Sinha, a character modelled on him. The film, also starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu, brought Dhawan to mainstream cinema. In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, the actor opened up about how he started getting “mobbed” after the release of Andhadhun, which went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year.
“It has been so many years of working, generations have changed but when they saw me, the young generation gave me so much love! They would Google my pictures… I mean, they loved me so much that a day after the film’s release, everything changed. It was not comfortable. If I went anywhere, I used to be mobbed everywhere. They loved the film so much!” he said.
The actor said the response was overwhelming even from the industry, as many people called and congratulated him for his work. Dhawan said that after Andhadhun, there was a renewed media interest in him– something which had stopped for a long time.
“I was getting calls, so many people from the industry, including the ones I didn’t know, called and told me, ‘Anil we saw your film, what a film we loved it.’ They appreciated my work also. I would get so many calls for articles, people would come daily with camera, asking me to say something, do something.
“All these things had stopped earlier, and all of it just erupted again. I would ask myself, ‘Maine kya galti kar di (Did I make some mistake)?’ I got a lot of love. They say, ‘Whatever a person does in life, the climax should be good.’ So I think I had an amazing climax in this industry,” he added.
Andhadhun also starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte.
