Anurag Kashyap caused a stir when he made strong statements about the functioning of the industry. The director called out Bollywood entourage costs, which ultimately eats into the budget of a film. In a recent interview, actor Amit Sial reacted to Anurag’s comments, saying that he should either follow the system that he is aware of, or cast actors who want to do his ‘raw films’.

In a chat with Hindi Rush, the actor agreed with Anurag’s concerns about the extra costs, but said that a producer should be ready for such things with A-listers. “Of course, these external factors are a problem. He was saying the right thing. But, without taking any names, if an actor is at a certain level of stardom and a producer approaches them, they already know what’s going to happen. Yet they still went to him,” he said.

Amit said that one should prefer actors who will happily do their films instead. “What did you think before going? You will transform that star into a good actor? Aap usko neeche le aaoge kyunki itni kuch mahaan cheez likh di aapne? Vo aapke jaise 500 logon ko nikaal ke phenk deta hoga apni life se roz (You think you’ve written such a great script that a major star will cut fee? He must be chewing up and spitting out 500 people like you everyday). You can’t do such things. If you want to make your raw content, there are other actors for such roles. You should go there,” he added.

While the corporate structure has changed the way a film set functions, the financials have also transformed. “A corporate structure came – it has production designer, casting director, background score, etc. All these never existed earlier. Now that it’s there, the paraphernalia of filmmaking has also increased. You will get many people for the type of films you want to make. Don’t make poor choices. Par fir jo actors honge, unke naam par film nahi bikegi. Jiske naam par film bikegi, uske lie toh karna hi padega, ghoom fir ke baat vahi agayi. You have to follow the rules to work here. Don’t do it if you have problems, no one has a gun to your head,” he asserted.

Anurag made his statements about a year ago. In an interview with Humans of Cinema, he complained about budgets being allocated to unnecessary thing, and said, “It’s not a holiday; it’s not a picnic. A lot of money that is spent doesn’t go into making the film. It goes into the paraphernalia; it goes into the entourage. You’re shooting in the middle of a jungle, but one car will be sent to the city three hours away specifically to get you that five-star burger you want.”

Amit Sial was last seen in Raid 2, alongside Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Vaani Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla and Rajat Kapoor.
