While Gadar 2 continues to shine at the box office, it seems like there’s an unresolved gadar (read: grudge) between director Anil Sharma and actor Ameesha Patel. Before the film was released, Ameesha had accused the filmmaker of not clearing the payment of technicians and also of mismanagement during shoots, leaving many in the crew stranded and hungry. Now the actor has opened up about Anil’s comment regarding Ameesha Patel‘s earlier statement that Tara and Sakina should be given prominence in the future instalments too.
The actor claimed that the director tried to push his son Utkarsh Sharma in the film and also revealed how he wanted Govinda and Mamta Kulkarni in the first place for Gadar. She also addressed claims of the filmmaker that her character Sakina came from ‘his heart’ and shared that they never had a good relationship.
“A lot of people have been asking me about my relationship with Mr. Anil Sharma. So here is my answer to all. Our relationship was never good, even during Gadar 1, but he’s family to me and always will be. Like all family members, we don’t always get along, but we’re still family. That’s our bond,” Ameesha Patel told News18.
She then mentioned how the character was created by the writer Shaktiman and not Anil Sharma. She added how she was cast by Zee (production house) and not Sharma. Ameesha said, “Anil Sharma preferred Mamta Kulkarni over me. Anil Sharma wanted Govinda as Tara, but Zee wanted Sunny. So yes, his and my choices are poles apart. Zee Studios and Sunny have always been the reason for me to do Gadar. The script, which was written by Shaktimanji, as Anilji always says, also, it was Mr. Shaktiman who created Sakina, not Anil Sharma.”
Referring to her blasting tweets against Anil Sharma and his production house, the actor said that she tweeted it at his request. “I have his chat as proof. He requested my business partner to delete the tweets and also tweets about Simratt Kaur and her explicit videos of adult films that went viral. I deleted them on his request since, like I said, Anilji is family to me. The dues that he owed to many technicians, which I tweeted about, I have chats of all of them. In fact, I have chats of Zee Studios as well, where they were shocked at Anilji’s way of handling the production, and it was Zee who resolved all the issues,” Ameesha Patel said in the interview, adding that in case the director denies anything, she can show it as proof. She added how he even committed ‘various things to her’ but didn’t fulfill.
Pressing on the fact that he’s life ‘family’ to her, Ameesha Patel also hit out at Anil Sharma promoting his son Utkarsh Sharma. She shared that she’d only do Gadar 3 if Sakina has a key role alongside Tara Singh like in the first part. As readers would know, the sequel focussed majorly on the love story of the younger couple, leading to Ameesha allegedly feeling sidelined.
“I feel bad for Anilji since he tried to push his son Utkarsh a lot in Gadar 2, but eventually, Tara and Sakina stole the limelight. Utkarsh is a very sweet boy, and I got him into the industry, and his father is very sweet to keep promoting him. Let’s hope some bigwigs from the industry start signing Utkarsh, as he’s a sweet boy and no boy would like to only be signed by his dad,” she said.
As Gadar 2 entered its 23rd day on Saturday, industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film added another Rs 6 crore taking its domestic total collection to Rs 493.65.
