Actor Akshay Oberoi, who can currently be seen in the film Param Sundari, has also made headlines recently for his comments about his cousin, Vivek Oberoi. He recently said that their families weren’t on good terms with each other, and that he wasn’t in touch with Vivek when he entered the film industry. Akshay was born and brought up in the United States. He eventually moved to India, and marked his debut with the 2010 film Isi Life Mein, a Rajshri Production film. However, that film didn’t work in his favour and his struggle continued.
Now, in a new interview, Akshay shared that he wished he was on good terms with his cousin, as that would have probably saved him a few years. Vivek marked his debut in 2002, eight years before Akshay. Talking to the podcast Level Up With Karan Chugh, Akshay shared: “We have never been in touch, so it’s not like I had any hard feelings. It was not like, ‘Why is he not helping’. He was going through his own thing. But I did see him and his father do work and was like, ‘There is a possibility.’ I am pretty sure that somewhere in my mind it also became a thing. So, I can’t hold anything against them. They got me to do this beautiful thing because they did it. Just by that alone.”
He added, “At that time, I was younger and immature, I used to feel like I wish our relationships were better that I could call him and ask for help, like introduce me to some people or just give me some advice. I never sought it. It was never offered. So, I was off on my own journey. And, we are not in touch, but in intervals, whenever I bumped into him here and there, there’s not really much to talk about.”
He shared that despite the distance between them, Vivek has complimented him a couple of times. “But in passing, he has told me once or twice: ‘Hey, good for you to carve your way or good job working on your Hindi.’ Whenever we bumped into each other, here and there… there was no disrespect. Only love for each other. I wish him well. But I wish (we were on good terms) it would have saved me a few years. But I can’t cry, that was my destiny to struggle and do it on my own,” shared Akshay.
Previously, in a conversation with Cyrus Broacha, Akshay shared details about the differences between the two families. “I think now the families are doing a better job. I think all the older generation is getting a bit older and everyone’s realising that whatever happened in all these years, we can let it go. I am sure there were Punjabi ego clashes that had happened.”
Akshay Oberoi is the son of Krishna Oberoi, who is the brother of veteran actor Suresh Oberoi. Krishnan Oberoi, according to his official page, is an artist, educator and entrepreneur based in the United States. According to IMDb, Krishnan Oberoi starred in shelved projects Sachcha Pyaar (1991) and Phool Aur Sholay (1993).
