Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon have jointly won the National Film Award in the Best Actress category for their films Gangubai Kathiawadi and Mimi, respectively, while Telugu actor Allu Arjun has been named the Best Actor for his film Pushpa: The Rise’.
The Kashmir Files has also won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Integration. Shoojit Sircar’s biographical historical drama Sardar Udham has also bagged several awards. Apart from being named the Best Hindi Film, it has been awarded Best Cinematography (Avik Mukhopadhyay), Best Audiography (Sinoy Joseph), Best Production Design (Dmitrii Malich and Mansi Dhruv Mehta) and Best Costume Design (Veera Kapur Ee) awards.
The Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a director has been awarded to Malayalam film Meppadiyan, while Assamese film The Resonance has bagged the award for Best Film on Social Issues.
SS Rajamouli’s RRR has won the Best Music Director (background score) award (M M Keeravaani), Best Special Effects (V Srinivas Mohan), Best Choreography (Prem Rakshith), Best Male Playback Singer (Kaala Bhairava for the song Maayava Chaayavaa) and Best Action Direction (Stunt Choreography) award (King Soloman). The film has also bagged the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
The National Awards, 2021, were selected by an 11-member jury headed by filmmaker Ketan Mehta. The award for the Best Director went to Nikhil Mahajan for Marathi film Godavari.
Officials said the awards are meant for films that were released/certified in 2021; the awards for the consequent year – 2022 – will be declared in a few weeks.
Music by Laxmikant Pyarelal: The Incredibly Melodious Journey, authored by Rajiv Vijayakar has won the Best Book on Cinema awards, while Telugu writer Purushothama Charyulu has been adjudged the Best Film Critic.
Best non-feature film award has been won by Ek Tha Gaon, produced and directed by Srishti Lakhera.
