Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or someone who enjoys the vibrancy of a bustling city, Hyderabad has something for everyone
Before, or even after the thrilling cricket World Cup matches that will keep you on the edge of your seat, make time to extend your stay in the vibrant city of Hyderabad. Beyond the stadium cheers and cricket fever, there is so much that this Deccan city offers to an intrepid traveller. Its gastronomy is legendary and the historical sites here offer an insight into a culture that spans centuries. Here is a quick one-day itinerary for your Hyderabad visit.
Visit the Charminar: Begin your day at the iconic Charminar, a symbol of Hyderabad’s historical grandeur. Built by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah (the 5th sultan of the Qutb Shahi dynasty), the monument stands a lone sentinel in the middle of bustling streets, identified by its four towering pillars (minars). Explore the markets surrounding it, especially Laad Bazaar which gets its name from laad or lacquer, used to make bangles. Don’t forget to try the local Irani chai and Osmania biscuits at the nearby tea stalls.

Golconda Fort Exploration: Head to the magnificent Golconda Fort for a trip back in time. Golla Konda translates to Shepherd’s Hill and legends say that a shepherd had found an idol on this hilltop, and conveyed this to the ruling Kakatiya king at that time. The king constructed a mud fort around this place and after 200 years, Bahamani rulers took possession of the place. The Qutub Shahi kings later made Golconda their capital and converted this mud fort into a granite structure which extended 5 km in circumference. Today, the fort’s sprawling architecture and breathtaking views make it a must-visit. Engage in the acoustic wonders of the Fateh Darwaza and delve into the history of this formidable structure.

A Biryani Bonanza: A trip to Hyderabad is incomplete without savouring its world-famous Hyderabadi Biryani. Its fragrant rice and mouth-melting mutton makes everyone in the city scour the local joints for the perfect plate. Head to a local eatery such as Paradise or Shadab for an authentic culinary experience.
Boating at Hussain Sagar Lake: Spend a serene evening by Hussain Sagar Lake, which was excavated in 1562 A.D. by Hussain Shah Wali during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. Today the promenade is a popular spot among locals and travellers alike. You can take a boat ride with a view of a large Buddha statue, installed in the middle of the lake. Close to Hussain Sagar Lake are other sites of interest like Lumbini Park, Birla Mandir, Snow World, NTR gardens and Planetarium.

Hit the Jubilee Hills: End your day trip in the city with a quick nightcap at one of many trendy bars and lounges that dot Jubilee Hills, an upscale posh locality in the city that boasts the best nightlife. If you head here early, you can also indulge in some retail therapy at designer showrooms and home decor stores.
