What is chabeel?

Chabeel is a traditional Punjabi drink served during the summer months to relieve the heat.

It is said to be a cooling and refreshing beverage that is made by mixing water and/or milk with rose syrup.

The drink is typically prepared using water, milk, sugar, and a flavouring agent such as rose essence or kewra water. Sometimes, additional ingredients like lemon juice or crushed ice may be added to enhance the taste and cooling effect.

Several roadside stalls in cities and towns also serve this sherbet, which is also known as ‘kacchi lassi’ in many parts of north India, informed Garima Goyal, a registered dietitian.

The main purpose of chabeel is to help combat dehydration and cool down the body in hot weather.

Chabeel helps in quenching thirst and replenishing fluids in the body. It provides a burst of sweetness and a cooling sensation, which can be quite soothing during hot summer days.
