Major security scare at Parliament as 2 men open smoke canisters inside LS; 4 nabbed

In a major security breach on the anniversary of 2001 Parliament attack, two men entered Lok Sabha and opened smoke canisters.

The men, who were seated in the visitors’ gallery, took out canisters from their shoes as they jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber.

The duo was overpowered by the MPs and were soon detained by the security personnel.

Around the same time, a man and a woman also sprayed coloured gas from canisters while shouting slogans 'tanashahi nahi chalegi' outside the Parliament.

The duo, identified as Amol and Neelam, were held from near Transport Bhavan and taken to Parliament Street police station.

The area around the Parliament turned into a fortress with paramilitary and police personnel deployed in large numbers.

LS Speaker Om Birla has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Birla also assured members of all parties that a thorough review of security arrangements will be made.

Forensic team is seen outside Parliament House to collect samples.

Several opposition MPs demanded an explanation from Home Minister Amit Shah after the incident.
