India is once again beginning to tighten its Covid measure after the emergence of a potentially more dangerous Omicron variant.

11 countries are categorised under the ‘at risk’ category. They are the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel.

International passengers  from 'at risk' countries should submit samples for a Covid-19 test.  Covid-19 positive samples among them  will be sent for genomic testing

Those who test negative will have to be in home quarantine for seven days. They should also take another test on the eighth day.

RT-PCR test is mandatory for all international travellers arriving Maharashtra, irrespective of country. A 14-day home quarantine is also mandatory for all international passengers.  A negative RT-PCR within 48 hours is compulsory for passengers from other states

Mumbai civic body has mandated all domestic passengers arriving at the city airport to carry a negative RT-PCR report not older than 72 hours.

At Chennai airport, an exclusive corridor has been created at the T4 terminal in the airport to screen passengers arriving from countries considered “at risk”. The facility can accommodate 450 passengers at a time.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that travellers from countries where the Omicron variant has been detected are being tested on arrival at the airports.
