Smriti shared with Neelesh Misra on The Slow Interview that after she got selected for Miss India, she needed Rs 1 lakh to participate in the competition and had to take that money on loan from her father.

"He said I will give you the money, but the condition is that you will have to pay me back, with interest. If you can’t, then I will get you married to a boy of my choice, and I said okay," she recalled.
