What causes pores, and it is only visible on oily skin?

Pores are tiny openings in the skin that allow hair follicles, sweat, and sebum (oil) to reach the skin’s surface.

High levels of oil (sebum) production: If you feel your pores are larger than normal then it could be because you get too much acne or produce too much oil. So, naturally your pores start to enlarge to encompass all that extra oil and obstruction.

Rosacea: It can also be due to rosacea (red coloured patches and visible blood vessels on the face). This is when your skin gets really sensitive; so naturally, the pores start to enlarge.

Ageing: Ageing will always cause your pores to enlarge. Excess sun exposure will worsen ageing, which will further pore enlargement.

Scars: Sometimes enlarged pores are actually scars. They look like pores but they are actually scars, so the treatment is different.

Other reasons may include reduced elasticity around pores caused by recurrent zits or blackheads/whiteheads, thick hair follicles, genetics or heredity, reduction of collagen production in the skin, caused by ageing and sun damage or overexposure to the sun.
