Dermatologist on usage of dry shampoo

It goes without saying that everyone must regularly cleanse their hair with a suitable shampoo, followed by a conditioner, to give it the required moisturisation.

Dr Gurveen Waraich, a dermatologist, said, “Dry shampoo is not a shampoo. It doesn’t clean your scalp. It just absorbs oil and makes the hair less greasy, drier and fluffier. But, it’s not a substitute for shampooing.”

The expert said that while there are no damaging ingredients in a dry shampoo, if you make it a habit, it will make your hair dry, frizzy, and brittle.

Also, if you are someone who frequently uses dry shampoo, make sure to use a clarifying shampoo once every two to three weeks, she suggested.

Agreeing, Dr Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetic Dermatologist and Dermato-Surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics suggested using a dry shampoos in moderation, in consultation with an expert.

She also listed the many benefits of using dry shampoo once in a while. “Dry shampooing means you don’t have to wash your hair frequently. Washing hair frequently will make them look dry and frizzy. But, dry shampooing will help you to have healthy and hydrated hair."
