World Leaders Salute India at 77: Global Powers Spotlight Democracy, Strategic Ties

From Washington to Brussels, leaders hailed India’s Constitution, its role in regional stability, and its cooperation in defence, energy, and emerging technologies. This year’s Republic Day parade in New Delhi is also marked by a significant diplomatic moment, with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attending as Chief Guests.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted the “historic bond” between India and the United States, pointing to real outcomes through defence ties and the Quad’s role in the Indo-Pacific. Ursula von der Leyen, speaking from India, said India and Europe are demonstrating that “another way is possible” in a fractured world through dialogue and openness.

France recalled its own role as Chief Guest in 2024, while China’s President Xi Jinping described India as a “friend and partner”, calling for stable ties and deeper cooperation.
