Monday headlines were already booming with “Usain Bolt” bold texts as the fastest man in the world clocked 9.81 seconds to win the 100m sprint at Rio 2016 Olympics, edging past his rival Justin Gatlin as well as his Jamaican teammate Yohan Blake. Sunday night belonged to the legendary star. The spectators staged a perfect podium for him with chants of “Bolt, Bolt, Bolt” before he could even mark his start. For Bolt its not just about winning Gold medals. Fans want World Records from him. Though he couldn’t deliver the much expected “WR” in his name for the third year in a row, he was confident about producing it in the 200m event.

Talking about World Records, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa produced a stunning performance in the men’s 400m event to clinch the gold medal as well as break the 17-year-old WR of Michael Johnson in a time of 43.03 seconds.

Van Niekerk’s performance was all the more remarkable as he took the eighth lane from where it is difficult to see the movement of the opponents.

Van Niekerk has been training with Bolt’s team this year. Bolt was so impressed with Niekerk’s performance that he left the interviews, after his 100m win, midway and ran to congratulate the South African.
