The opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympics will take place on August 5 at the Marcana Stadium officially kick start the Rio 2016 Olympics. The opening ceremony will start from 8 PM local time (4.30 AM IST). For sports we have archery qualification as our main events for the day.

From India, the representatives would be Atanu Das, Laxmirani Majhi and Deepika Kumari who would be a part of this qualification.

Atanu Das will represent India in the Recurve Men’s Individual and Team events at the Rio 2016 Games. Laxmirani will represent India at the Rio 2016 Olympics in archery- single women’s and team where Deepika Kumari too will be seen in action in archery- single women’s and team events.

Rio Olympics 2016: Opening ceremony details still under wraps, but here is what we know

Men’s archers to get the action underway at 5.30 PM IST. In the qualification round, Atanu Das with target 22A will be first to get things underway. India has no representation in the men’s team event. Later, at 9.30 PM, women’s archers will be in action. Bombayla Devi, Laxmirani Majhi and Deepika Kumari would be hopeful of doing right from much hopes at London.

This is the first time ever that the country has sent a huge Olympic contingent. The number of athletes who are a part of this Olympics are 118. London 2012 Olympics saw 83 athletes participating in the competition from the nation.
