Atanu Das, 24-year-old archer, comes from West Bengal. Atanu is a promising budding talent, who started archery at the age of 14. He moved to Tata Archery Academy in 2008, where he was trained under the coach Lim Chae Wong. Making his first appearance in a mega event, Atanu is currently employed in Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Kolkata.
He made his international debut in 2008. Das edged out the experienced former Olympian duo of Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia to qualify for his maiden Olympic Games. Having made the World Cup stage three semis at the Antalya, Das had a bonus points of 1.5 and he qualified behind Talukdar (659) and Champia (649). He is the lone Indian representative in the men’s category at the Rio Games.
Career highlights: Atanu has won a bronze medal, with Deepika Kumari, in the 2013 World Cup Mixed Team event organized in Colombia. He had also finished fourth in the individual recurve event at the same event.
Qualifying event: AAI selected Atanu Das to represent the country in the men’s recurve event at the Rio Olympics after conducting trials in Bangalore.
RECORD: Atanu has won a bronze medal, with Deepika Kumar- India’s most experienced women archer, in the 2013 World Cup Mixed Team event organized in Colombia.
Event: Atanu Das will represent India in the Recurve Men’s Individual and Team events at the Rio 2016 Games.
