Weightlifting at Rio 2016 Olympics has produced a couple of world record and the domination of Chinese lifters was on display throughout. But it turned out to be a bad for an Armenian weightlifter.
Andranik Karapetyan suffered an elbow break after he tried to lift two and a half times his bodyweight in the men’s 77kg category. He was in medal contention at the Games and was good for a bronze before the incident.
After his snatch competition, Karapetyan was competing in the clean and jerk event where he was trying to lift 195 kg over the bar in his second attempt. At this lift that with his left elbow gave way and while he was trying a clear, it bent backwards.
He lifted the weight to his chest with ease and then tried to lift clean but the weight went backwards and his elbow crushed, leaving him screaming in pain and clutching his arm.

He was immediately escorted off the stage by the officials and his coaches.
