Meta prepares deep cuts to metaverse staff as focus shifts to AI glasses
Meta is planning to downsize its Reality Labs division, particularly in the Metaverse unit, responsible for virtual-reality headsets and a VR-based social network. The layoffs, affecting 10% to 30% of employees, will fund investments in their successful augmented reality glasses. They have also hired a designer from Apple to lead a new creative studio for AI glasses and other projects.
