‘Cheating’ birds change their tune — and females can tell
Female pied flycatchers have the unique ability to detect a male's mating status through changes in their songs. This phenomenon, observed in a recent study, may be linked to the male's polyterritoriality and potential for infidelity. The study also found that female flycatchers preferred songs from bachelor males over those from mated males.
