Never force a locked jaw shut—doctors explain why
Jaw locking, or trismus, can cause panic and discomfort when the jaw won't close. Dr Kunal Sood, an expert in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Medicine, says TMJ involvement, muscle spasms, or joint misalignment can cause this. Forcing the jaw closed can make it worse, so calmness and safe measures like warm compress and gentle movements are advised. Recurring episodes can occur.
