End of an era: Last ever ‘lucky’ penny printed by US Mint
After 232 years, the American penny has come to an end due to its rising cost. The last batch of pennies, including 235 with an Omega symbol, were minted and will be auctioned off. The penny, which once had cultural significance and was used to purchase small items, will still be accepted as legal tender. Other coins, such as the nickel and quarter, will remain in circulation.
