Hopes will be high from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this season as the franchise has roped in Shreyas Iyer for a whopping Rs 12.25 crore and named him as the captain of the team. Iyer was in huge demand in the mega auction and unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old youngster triggered a
bidding war between Delhi Capitals and the Knight Riders before the latter had the last laugh in the auction proceedings. Two-time IPL champions will go into IPL 2022 as one of the favourites after they have retained Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine. Venkatesh is expected to open the batting line-up alongside Aaron Finch and Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana and Andre Russell will follow. The KKRs also have a good mix of spin (Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy) and pace attack (Pat Cummins, Shivam Mavi and Andre Russell). Both Cummins and Russell are extremely capable of bowling in the death and restricting teams to the lowest totals possible.
