Kerala Blasters, based in Kochi, was established on May 24, 2014 and has competed in the Indian Super League since the inception of the high-profile league. The club has a majority stake by former India cricketer and captain Sachin Tendulkar and his nickname of “Master Blaster” has been included in the club’s name. Minority stakeholders include film stars Chiranjeevi and Akkineni Nagarjuna, as well as film producer Allu Aravind and industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad. The club play their home games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and enjoys a strong 55,000 fan attendance on an average on each match day. After ATK, who have won the title twice, Kerala Blasters can be considered as the second most successful team in ISL having reached the final twice - losing both to ATK - and finishing eighth in the 2015 season. After being managed by Steve Coppell in 2016, Kerala will enjoy the services of Rene Meulensteen at the helm in the 2017-18 season. The club will begin their league campaign on October 9 against Delhi Dynamos.
