Shardul stars on return - Mumbai Indians won't be overly pleased with how things ended, but they will be pleased with the overall bowling effort. Deepak Chahar kept things quiet in the Powerplay and even picked up a wicket. Shardul Thakur then provided a crucial breakthrough by knocking over Cooper Connolly and then two balls later, he got rid of Shreyas Iyer as well. The likes of Raj Bawa and the others capitalized, and we saw the seamers use a lot of cross-seamers and most of them stayed low and troubled the batters, with Thakur ending with a four-fer. However, a few dropped catches and some poor deliveries at the death turned the momentum against MI heading into the interval.

Punjab finish with a big flourish - By the end of the 16th over, PBKS found themselves in a bit of bother at 140/6 and even as they continued to lose wickets at the death, they managed to notch up 60 runs in the final 4 overs to get to a par total, all thanks to some excellent hitting from the lower-order batters. PBKS started off steadily as the openers added 50 runs for the first wicket, and then Prabhsimran Singh added 57 more runs with Cooper Connolly. Then came the slump and from 107/1, they crumbled to 140/7. Thankfully for them, Azmatullah Omarzai played a blinder and the likes of Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett added crucial runs at the death to get them out of a real fix.

Topsy-turvy all the way - What started as a contest where both teams were jabbing at each other has turned into an entertaining encounter by the end of the first innings. For the eighth time this season, Punjab Kings have breached the 200-run mark, as mentioned by Alan Wilkins on air, but will it be enough? Only time will tell.

Connolly has already crossed the 400-run mark, while Iyer has 5 half centuries already, and the consistency the two have brought to the top and middle of the order has been the one constant in an otherwise turbulent few weeks for Punjab. A season to forget - For the first time in many years, one of the most successful franchises in IPL history has looked like a stranger to the tournament they once owned. Fresh off a defining role in India's T20 World Cup triumph, Bumrah arrived in the IPL carrying enormous expectations, and none of them was met. Three wickets across 11 innings at an economy of 8.51 are figures you simply do not associate with a bowler like him. It has been that kind of season for Mumbai, where even their most reliable names could not find their best. A bit of promise amid tensions - With the bat, Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir have been the two standout performers, the only Mumbai batters to cross the 300-run mark this season.
