Commentary
We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon are the two openers for Bangladesh. Faheem Ashraf to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Bangladesh will be disappointed with their bowling performance. They began well, with Mahedi Hasan and Shoriful Islam striking early to put Pakistan on the back foot. However, they couldn’t maintain that momentum. While Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Hasan Mahmud picked up key wickets in the middle overs and Shamim Hossain and Rishad Hossain chipped in with one apiece, the spinners were expensive towards the end. Litton Das might have missed a trick by not letting the pacers complete their full quota, especially with Shoriful Islam grabbing another scalp in the final over. Now, the batters face a stiff challenge. But with the pitch playing true and full of runs, if they back themselves and apply pressure, we could be in for an exciting chase. Join us in a bit for the second essay.
Shadab Khan of Pakistan is up for a quick chat. He begins by saying that it is a good wicket, but points out that once the ball grew older, it didn't come onto the bat. Also says that the new ball stayed a bit low, and was tough to bat against the old ball. On Mike Hesson's coaching, he emphasizes that it is too early to say anything about his coaching, but highlights that he is well aware of the conditions and how to manage the cricketers at the highest level.
Pakistan didn’t get off to the best of starts, losing both openers within the first two overs. But skipper Salman Agha and Mohammad Haris stepped up, steadying the innings with a composed 48-run partnership. Haris departed, and Agha followed soon after, though not before bringing up a superb fifty. At that point, Pakistan were in a spot of bother, but quickfire 40s from Hasan Nawaz and Shadab Khan turned things around. Their counter-attack powered the team past the 200-run mark - the first time ever for them in a T20I in Lahore.
A strong batting performance from Pakistan! Head Coach Mike Hesson emphasized the need for aggressive yet intelligent cricket - and that's exactly what his team delivered. The batters showed clear intent, and even after losing a few wickets, they didn’t retreat. Instead, they kept the pressure on the bowlers and have now posted an imposing total on the board.

He looks a bit frustrated and is in some pain as well. The physio is out there to tend to him. Splashes some water on his face and looks fine to continue now.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Litton Das (C), Tawhid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Jaker Ali (WK), Shamim Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam.
Pakistan (Playing XI) - Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (WK), Salman Agha (C), Hasan Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Khushdil Shah, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed.
The skipper of Bangladesh, Litton Das, says that in the last series they played well, but didn't win it. Adds that it's a new game, so you have to play well in this series. Mentions that he knows his bowler's strength, and he backs them. Adds that it's a good opportunity for the youngsters to do well who will be replacing the senior players in this series. Shares that they do not mind bowling first on this wicket.
The capitan of Pakistan, Salman Agha, says they will try to score above par and put pressure on the opposition. Adds it is a good wicket and that they want to put some runs on the board. On Pakistan's way forward in the T20I format, he says the 16 player squad that is selected is in a good form and had a good PSL season. Says when you're representing the country, you can have the recognition. On his performance, he says his goal will be to contribute for his side.
TOSS - Pakistan have won the toss and elected to BAT first.
On the other hand, Litton Das' tenure as T20I captain of Bangladesh didn't start well, as they suffered a setback against UAE after losing the series by 2-1. Their squad is packed with exciting players, like Hasan Mahmud, Tanzid Hasan, and Parvez Hossain Emon. But there are some injury concerns in the team, as Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Soumya Sarkar are all sidelined due to injuries, and Nahid Rana opted out of the tour. With talented stars on both sides, a close contest is expected. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.
Pakistan, led by Salman Agha, will begin yet another new era as Mike Hesson has been appointed the white-ball coach. The home team are heading into this series after suffering a 4-1 series loss against New Zealand. Salman's leadership and experience will be crucial as they take on Bangladesh. The Pakistan squad will be without  Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi as they are looking to build a squad for next year's T20 World Cup. There might be some big names missing from the squad, but there are the likes of Hasan Ali, Sahibzada Farhan, Hasan Nawaz, and Abrar Ahmed, who are coming off a brilliant season of PSL 2025.
Hello and welcome to all the cricket enthusiasts. Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to clash in the first T20I of their three-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It was originally scheduled to consist of three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is, however, it was cut short to five T20I matches when the PSL invaded its window and scrapped the two games in Faisalabad, and eventually scheduled for five T20I matches, the series was shortened to a three-match T20I series.
... MATCH DAY ...
The three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is about to start with Pakistan taking on Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. All three matches in this series will be played at the same venue. Talking about the hosts, they will start their preparation for the next year's T20 World Cup under the newly appointed coach Mike Hession, with some young players included in the squad. Pakistan, led by Salman Agha, came into this series after losing their previous T20I series by 4-1 against New Zealand, so they will be itching to make a comeback. The Pakistan team will be without Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi as they are looking to build a new squad, and that's why they have given a chance to the players who performed well in the recently concluded PSL! While talking about Bangladesh, led by Litton Das, they also suffered a setback in the recently concluded series against UAE, where they lost the series 2-1, and they will be keen to bounce back. However, they will also be without key players like Soumya Sarkar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed. Skipper Litton Das will lead from the front with the bat, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tawhid Hridoy, and Jaker Ali add firepower in the batting, with Mahedi Hasan bringing stability to the squad with his all-round skills. While on the bowling front, in the absence of frontline pacers, Shoriful Islam's experience will be key for them, and he will be supported by the likes of Tanzim Hasan Shakib, Tanvir Islam, and Rishad Hossain. A cracking contest is on the cards as both sides look to find answers from their previous series.
Right. Pakistan kick off their new era under Mike Hesson in style, securing a dominant win to take a 1-0 lead in this three-match T20I series. Meanwhile, Bangladesh faces an early setback and will need to regroup, reassess, and find a way to bounce back. With momentum on Pakistan’s side, the tourists will be desperate to level the series. That wraps up the series opener, and all eyes now turn to the second T20I, which will be played on 30th May, Friday, with action set to begin at 3 pm GMT, with Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium being the exclusive venue for this series. But, be sure to tune in an hour early for all the buildup. See you then, take care!
The captain of Pakistan, Salman Agha, reflects that they made a strong comeback after losing two wickets on just 5 runs. Says this is what they want from this side. Adds they want to do well in all three departments and want people to come and take the game on. On Hasan Ali's five-for, Agha says that he appreciates his performance and says it is good to see the Hasan Ali of 2017 back in form. Mentions that he has worked very hard off the field and is happy to see it paying off well for him. Also highlights his good showing in the PSL as well. On being asked about the all-rounders in the side, Salman considers it a luxury to have. Also points that they have Saim Ayub as well, who can bowl four overs. About the next game, he says they will take a bit of rest before preparing for the second game.
The captain of Bangladesh, Litton Das, reflects on the defeat. He says that he is disappointed that they could not build on the good start. Adds that they didn't bat, bowl, or field well in this game and need to be more consistent. Mentions that 200 was definitely chasable at this ground as the wicket was good too. Says that they did not bat well in the middle overs, but praises Jaker Ali for his effort and says that he has been good for a long time now. Ends by saying that he believes that they need to have a clear mindset for the next games and come back mentally rather than in practice.
Shadab Khan of Pakistan is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his all-round brilliance on the field. He says that his comeback wasn't great, but he worked really hard, and the PSL went well for him, and it gave him a lot of confidence. Mentions that his bowling was going well, but there are several areas that need improvement going forward. Shares that the ball was not coming onto the bat, so his plan was to bowl short of length and keep away from the batter.
It is time for the Presentation ceremony...
Pakistan's Hasan Ali, the man of the moment says that the thought was simple, to hit the right areas as they know the conditions well. Adds that the batters also played well to put up 200 runs, which allowed them to execute their plans well. Mentions that variations are key in T20s as it has become easier for the batters, and changing pace and using different variations are important. Says that he can't ask for anything else, it is special to take a fifer on his return to the team. Further adds that the rehab was boring, but you need to have dedication and hunger. He also thanks the PCB and physios for working with him, as it was a career-threatening injury. Tells that Mike Hesson said that they need to play modern cricket and they have seen how the world is playing this format, and they wanted to execute their plans which they did in this game.
Earlier in the game, after electing to bat first, Pakistan’s innings stumbled early at 5/2, losing both openers in the first six. But skipper Salman Agha and Mohammad Haris steadied the ship, with Agha leading the charge. His blazing fifty proved crucial, as he built vital partnerships, first with Haris, then Hasan Nawaz, keeping Pakistan dominant in the middle overs. The aggressive intent of the incoming batters ensured momentum stayed on their side. Shadab Khan and Hasan Nawaz’s late contributions pushed Pakistan beyond the 200-run mark. Every bowler of Bangladesh shared wickets, with Shoriful Islam bagging two to his name, while the rest chipped in with one apiece.
Jaker Ali fought to keep Bangladesh’s hopes alive with some powerful hits, but the chase had already slipped beyond reach. With too many runs left for the final stretch and not enough wickets in hand, the task proved insurmountable. After his dismissal, they got wrapped up in a flash. Hasan Ali replicated his PSL magic with a crucial five-wicket haul, and while Haris Rauf was a bit expensive, the rest of the bowling attack played their part, picking up wickets at the right moments to seal a well-earned victory.
Bangladesh found some rhythm with a 63-run stand, but just as Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy looked ready to shift gears, disaster struck. First, skipper Litton Das fell, then Hridoy followed, triggering a dramatic collapse. From a steady 100/2, the visitors tumbled to 124/6, losing all their key batters in quick succession. The spinners seized control, with Shadab Khan leading the charge, stamping Pakistan’s authority on the game.
Bangladesh’s chase of 202 got off to a rocky start, losing both openers early, but Tanzid Hasan provided some stability before falling. Hasan Ali and company tightened their grip, leaving Bangladesh at 45/2 by the Powerplay, trailing Pakistan’s 52/2 at the same stage. Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy then took charge, carefully rebuilding the innings, but spinners Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed kept them in check, restricting boundaries and allowing only 30 runs in the next four overs after the Powerplay, though without conceding a wicket.
A job well done by Pakistan across all departments. A commanding performance in all facets of the game, first setting the tone with the bat by surpassing the 200-run mark, then reinforcing their dominance with the ball. Meanwhile, Bangladesh had a tough start to the series, completely outplayed by Pakistan’s formidable force in Lahore.
