Fightback after the storm - Mumbai Indians will be pleased with how they fought back after an expensive Powerplay, led by a brilliant Shardul Thakur, who struck with three crucial wickets whenever called upon. While Boult and Bumrah went wicketless, their control and pinpoint yorkers in the middle overs helped rein things in. The spinners had little assistance, with AM Ghazanfar proving very expensive, and Rohit’s dropped chance of Angkrish on 21, which cost them 30 more runs, could still be on his mind when he comes out to bat.

KKR's starboy is up for a chat - Angkrish Raghuvanshi says it is a good batting track, though the slower balls are offering some help to the bowlers. He feels 220 is just about par and adds that they will need to bowl well to defend it. Raghuvanshi mentions that during the timeout, head coach Abhishek Nayar and captain Ajinkya Rahane advised him to keep his base strong and not take pressure, which helped him settle in and get the runs flowing. When asked about his favourite shot of the night, Angkrish shares it was the sweep he played against Jasprit Bumrah. He adds that there wasn’t a lot of help on offer for the spinners, but cheekily mentions that they have bowlers who can turn the ball even on glass.

A perfect blend of calm and chaos - KKR's openers began cautiously in the first couple of overs, but once they found their rhythm, there was no stopping them. Rahane oozed elegance while Allen brought the brute force, as the duo powered their side to 78/1 in the Powerplay, their highest-ever against MI. Rahane then stitched together a couple of handy stands with Green and Angkrish, bringing up a fine half-century before departing. Angkrish started slowly, but a dropped chance by Rohit proved costly as he shifted gears brilliantly, smashing 51 off just 29 balls. Rinku then provided the finishing touches with a flurry of boundaries in a quick cameo, propelling KKR to a formidable 220.

A tale of two halves - Kolkata Knight Riders have flexed their muscles in their opening game, putting up a strong total on the board. However, given the blazing start they got, they might feel they left a few runs out there. Credit must go to Mumbai Indians, who pulled things back brilliantly through the middle overs and at the death, giving away just 29 runs in the last 3 overs, a phase that could ultimately prove decisive on what looks like a batting paradise.

Strategic Break! The first couple of overs were relatively quiet, but after that, it has been carnage from the KKR batters. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane has led from the front, and the intent has been pretty clear from the visitors. They are going to keep attacking the bowlers, not worrying about wickets. Mumbai Indians are in a spot of bother and needed this break to come up with some different plans, as only wickets can help them contain the run flow here.
