A tricky test awaits - The tone was set by the way Saurabh Dubey and Cameron Green started off in the Powerplay, and the good work was carried forward brilliantly through the middle phase by Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy, with Varun turning up despite hobbling with a toe injury. This has been a tough wicket for the batters to line up the bowlers. Given the success enjoyed by the KKR spinners, expect AM Ghazanfar to come in as the Impact Sub for MI. With Raghu Sharma and Will Jacks also present, that could potentially mean 12 overs of spin for MI. Stick around for the chase.

Tough going for MI - Rain in the lead-up to the game made it a pretty straightforward decision for Ajinkya Rahane to insert the Mumbai Indians to bat. The sticky nature of the surface made stroke-making difficult, and MI, in their quest to make the most of the Powerplay, lost four wickets inside the first 6 overs. Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya both found it tough against the spin duo of Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine. Although Tilak got a lifeline, he could not make the most of it, while Hardik was unable to make a significant contribution either. Will Jacks getting run out only added to MI's woes. However, Corbin Bosch came through to provide MI the late flourish.

Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma can be seen in the MI dugout. We have an official update that the play will resume at 9.15 pm IST (3.45 pm GMT), with no overs lost.

8.52 pm IST (3.22 pm GMT) - The umpires have walked out in the middle and are indulging in a detailed conversation with the head of the ground staff. The covers are being gradually peeled off. Looks like the pitch has also been uncovered. The drainage is pretty good at this venue so the resumption is not that far if rain stays away.

8.45 pm IST (3.15 pm GMT) - The umpires are in conversation with the curator. There is no rain around, which is a pleasing thing. However, the mop-up and uncovering operation is yet to start. Some of the ground staff are out in the middle and appear to be taking the blocks off the covers, which were placed to prevent them from being blown away. And there it is. The covers are now coming off. Ajinkya Rahane has had a brief chat with the umpires before walking back to the dressing room, with the resumption time likely having been conveyed to both captains.

8.35 pm IST (3.05 pm GMT) - The match officials are out in the middle, engaged in discussions with the chief of the ground staff. Hardik Pandya is also waiting in the dugout, while the KKR players have also started gathering around their dugout. The covers are still firmly in place, though. The umpires are repeatedly looking up at the skies, not entirely sure how much can be made of that in the dark, but perhaps the radar has suggested there could still be a bit more weather around.

8.24 pm IST (2.54 pm GMT) - The rain seems to have eased, with the fourth umpire no longer needing the umbrella. The entire ground currently resembles an ice rink with it blanketed in white sheets. It could still be a little while before we resume, given the sheer amount of covers spread across the playing area.

8.16 pm IST (2.46 pm GMT) - Where has this come from? The heavens have suddenly opened up, and the players are sprinting off the park as the covers are rushed on by the ground staff. Harsha Bhogle mentions on air that this shower was expected on the radar, with more rain potentially on the way as well. The good thing, though, is that here in Kolkata the entire ground gets covered, and that is exactly what is happening at the moment.
