Punjab Kings
Right then, that is all we have from this game. Punjab have made things very interesting with a rollicking win. They move to the fifth position in the points table now. We have another cracking game waiting for us on Wednesday, 4th May where Bangalore will go head-to-head against Chennai. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but as you know, our build-up will begin well in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Kagiso Rabada is the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell of 4-0-33-4! The speedster says that finally they got the win and admits that they have been a bit inconsistent in the tournament. Adds that they want to string a few wins and he feels that as a bowling group they did well and praises the batters as well. Calls it a good outing for Punjab. Rabada wants to stick to the process and not get too greedy. He lauds the death-bowling skills of Arshdeep Singh who has been doing it well day in and day out. Shares that he is not advising too much to Arshdeep who already knows what he wants to work on. States that as a bowler, you have to bowl at all the stages of the game and have to figure out how to be effective.
Mayank Agarwal, the winning skipper of Punjab, says that they would like to string a few wins from hereon. Adds that they are trying to get the best out of Jonny Bairstow and that's why Mayank decided to bat in the middle order. Calls it nice the way they overhauled the target. Shares that after getting in a comfortable position, they decided to finish the chase quickly and address the NRR. Mentions that they bowled extremely well and restricted Gujarat to a below-par score. Praises the stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Bhanuka Rajapaksa before signing off.
Presentation time...
Liam Livingstone (30 off 10 balls) is down for a chat. He smiles and talks about the 'monster six' by saying that he swung really hard at that one. Praises the knock of Shikhar Dhawan and his partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Tells that they needed this win. Adds that the conversation was not about NRR. Shares that he came before Mayank Agarwal and the talk was that if Dhawan gets out, Mayank will go in otherwise he (Liam) will go in next. Further says that batting ahead of Agarwal gave him the license to bat fearlessly as there was Mayank who can stabilize the innings if something goes wrong. States that it's all about learning and as a new team, it was always going to be tough. Again says that Dhawan batted beautifully and did well to nullify Rashid Khan.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of Gujarat, says that they didn't put even a par score and feels 170 could have been an ideal score. Adds that they kept losing wickets. He backs his decision to bat first as he wants his team to come out of its comfort zone. Tells that it was an exercise that they wanted to try. Feels that they kept losing wickets and didn't find the rhythm. Wants to take this loss as a learning curve. Mentions that the talk is always about getting better even when they win. States that they will regroup and they need not worry about this loss.
Time for some interviews!
Chasing a low total, Punjab decided to send Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order with Shikhar Dhawan. However, the move did not work as Bairstow departed early. Bhanuka Rajapaksa came in at number 3 and he and Shikhar Dhawan mixed caution with aggression to great effect as they stitched together an 87-run partnership. Punjab needed almost run-a-ball when Rajapaksa departed and after that, Dhawan and Livingstone finished it off in the 16th over as Liam Livingstone showed all his might towards the end.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya decided to do the hard job and decided to defend the total after winning the toss. However, the batting group did not deliver to his expectations as Punjab bowlers bowled with good lines and lengths. It was the innings from young Sai Sudharsan that took Gujarat to a respectable total but it was still below-par. Kagiso Rabada was exceptional yet again, picking one more 4-wicket haul this season.
WOW! Some mighty hitting and entertainment from Livingstone to cap off a clinical display from Punjab! Punjab will be pretty pleased with their overall effort today, smiles all around in their camp and rightly so. They were under real pressure coming into this game with only one win from the last four games and against a team that was just unstoppable. However, they have made a strong statement this evening and would be looking to go from strength to strength from hereon. Gujarat, on the other hand, had an off day in the office and it might not be a bad thing for them, as it gives them some motivation to further improve themselves.

This one is a bit short and on middle, Liam Livingstone launches this high over deep square leg for a biggie.
Strategic break! Punjab are cruising at the moment! It has been a clinical display so far from them and anything different than Punjab's victory will be a big surprise here. However, Gujarat are known to pull off miracles in the final five overs of the game but can they do it today? Let's find out. Mohammad Shami (3-0-15-1) is back on.

Rashid Khan to Liam Livingstone, SAFE! Yet another googly from Rashid, landing around off and turning back in. Liam Livingstone fails to pick it. The UltraEdge finds no bat and the Ball Tracking finds no stumps. It's heading over the leg stump. A leg bye is added to the total. Rashid is done with his spell of 4 overs. 27 needed more off 30 balls.
Review! Gujarat have reviewed an LBW decision against Liam Livingstone! No bat involved, confirms UltraEdge. Ball Tracking indicates it was missing the leg stump. The on-field decision stands!

DRINKS! This has been a confident start from Punjab. They are not chasing a big total but needed a good start against a strong bowling attack and now with the required rate under 7 and nine wickets in hand, they are favourites to win this one. However, Gujarat have a good bowling attack and it will be interesting to see how Punjab batters go about their business against Rashid Khan. A key phase of this game coming up as Rashid Khan is brought into the attack.

Gujarat Titans
We are back for the chase! Gujarat players have made their made way out to the middle. Shikhar Dhawan will open alongside his new partner, Jonny Bairstow! Mohammad Shami will begin the proceedings with the ball. Let's go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then! Punjab need 144 runs to get over the line! It is a brutal batting lineup versus a strong bowling attack. Which team will come out on top? We will find out. Stay tuned for the second essay!
Sai Sudharsan (65*) is down for a chat. Says that he is happy with his knock but feels he could have batted better. Adds that for the spinner, it's gripping a little bit and at the death, Arshdeep Singh was nailing his yorkers and it was tough to get it away. Feels that it's a good total. Mentions that the Gujarat bowlers have been excellent this season and he hopes that they start well with the ball.
A decision to bat first by Hardik Pandya did not really go in their favour! But Sai Sudharsan has helped them put a fighting total on the board. No batter found any rhythm in the middle and struggled to score boundaries. Hardik, Miller, Tewatia, and Rashid - the usual saviours for Gujarat this season combined for only 23 runs and had it not been for Sai Sudharsan's knock, Gujarat would have struggled to even cross the 100-run mark. They might be 20 runs short here but Gujarat do have something to bowl at and they do have a strong bowling attack as well. They will be hoping to defend this and continue their winning streak.
It turned out to be an excellent bowling performance by Punjab. Their bowlers were well disciplined and kept things quiet right till the end and they made sure to grab wickets at regular intervals. They grabbed 3 wickets within the first 7 overs and put Gujarat under pressure immediately. Once they got rid of David Miller, they started grabbing wickets in a cluster. Rabada once again was the leader of the pack, grabbing four wickets and demolishing the Gujarat batting line-up. Punjab do have a golden opportunity here to get back to winning ways!
A decent recovery from Gujarat, but it's been a terrific bowling performance from Punjab against the table-toppers. Mayank Agarwal will surely be a happy man! They have restricted Gujarat to a par score here and will definitely fancy their chance to come out on top.

Kagiso Rabada to Wriddhiman Saha, OUT! CAUGHT! Saha gets carried away with his attacking batting. Tries to take on Rabada again but it's not easy to do that every time against a bowler of his calibre. The speedster persists with his line outside off and delivers it on a length at 144.1 kph. Saha's attempt for another lofted shot results in a top edge and Mayank Agarwal backtracks from extra cover to grab the skier safely. It's been a good start from Punjab.

Sandeep Sharma to Shubman Gill, OUT! RUN OUT! A direct hit and Shubman Gill is on his way back! He is not happy with something but Punjab have their first breakthrough! A fuller ball, outside off. Shubman Gill taps it towards short extra cover and scampers across to the other end. Rishi Dhawan collects the ball and hits it directly at the stumps at the non-striker's end. Shubman Gill is nowhere near and he has to walk back. He turns and stares at the bowler. Maybe, Gill feels that Sandeep Sharma got in his way. To be honest, he didn't.

We are all set to begin! The Punjab players make their way out to the middle. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill are the openers for Gujarat. Will Gill fire today? He is surely due for some runs. Sandeep Sharma will start with the ball for Punjab. Here we go...
So both teams are going with an unchanged XI. The table-toppers have decided to take a challenge and have elected to bat first but going by their record this season, they would be pretty confident. Punjab, on the other hand, might get some help from the dew later on and they need to seize this opportunity to get those two crucial points on the board. Let's see how things pan out.
Shikhar Dhawan is down for a chat. Says that he is doing well with the bat and is happy with the consistency. Adds that he keeps looking at ways to improve his game. Feels that they have not been consistent as a batting unit and they need to rectify that thing. Praises Arshdeep Singh for his bowling, especially at the death and further says that the pacer has been amazing, and he is making the ball talk at his will which is amazing to watch.
Mayank Agarwal, the captain of Punjab, was looking to bowl anyway but says that losing so many tosses isn't a good sign for them. Adds that they are playing good aggressive cricket and it's just that they are not seizing the key moments. Tells that the belief in the camp is good and informs that they are also UNCHANGED.
Hardik Pandya, the skipper of Gujarat, says that they are going to bat first as he reckons that dew won't play much of a role today. Adds that they have to be on the top of their game and can't get complacent. Further says that things have gone their way but they could have gone the other way as well. Mentions that he is feeling alright and he is quite close to bowling now, but he does not want to rush. Informs that they are playing with the same XI.
Punjab (Unchanged Playing XI) - Mayank Agarwal (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Rishi Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh, Sandeep Sharma.
Gujarat (Unchanged Playing XI) - Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya (C), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Pradeep Sangwan, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammad Shami.
TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Gujarat. Hardik Pandya lets out a big laugh but then surprises everyone with his decision. GUJARAT ELECT TO BAT!
Pitch report - Graeme Smith is near the pitch and informs that one side of the ground has a very big hit. Regarding the pitch, he feels that it is a much better surface with an even covering of grass. Adds that the ball will come onto the bat better, and we can expect good stroke-making. The South African opines that the captain winning the toss will stick to bowling first.
The last time these two sides met, we witnessed an absolute nail-biter and we can expect the same today. Which team will come out on top? We will find out. Stay tuned for more updates...
Punjab, on the other hand, are having yet another inconsistent season. They do have a strong team on paper but they have just not been able to click yet. They have managed to win just 1 out of their last four games and will be hoping to change things around before it gets too late for them.
Gujarat seem like a formidable unit. They are making winning a habit now and have outplayed most of their opponents in their inaugural Indian T20 League season and it appears nothing can stop them at the moment. If their top order fails to perform, players like Rashid Khan, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia put their hands up and guide them to victory. They will want to carry on in the same way and continue their winning streak.
Hello and a warm welcome, folks to match number 48 of the Indian T20 League between Gujarat and Punjab at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy. The two sides are at the opposite ends of the points table. Gujarat are comfortably stationed at the top of the table, while Punjab are languishing in the bottom half with just 8 points by their name. Can they revive their fortunes starting this evening?
