That is it from this game and another Super Saturday in the 2023 Indian T20 League ends. The action though continues on Sunday, the 14th of May with yet another doubleheader. First, Rajasthan take on Bangalore in Jaipur and that game will begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). Then there will be a clash between Chennai and Kolkata in Chennai at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). The build-up for both those games will begin a lot sooner though. Cheers!

Prabhsimran Singh is the Player of the Match for his exceptional knock of 103 runs from 65 balls. He starts by saying that since they lost early wickets, his plan was to bat long. Mentions that he has been with the team for a long time and tries to learn from the senior players. Shares that he wanted to grab the opportunities with both hands and back his game. Reckons that the wicket was difficult as the ball was turning and tried to build a partnership with Sam Curran. On his celebration post hundred, he says that this is his celebration at the domestic level and he is thankful to god and the team management.

Shikhar Dhawan, the skipper of Punjab, starts by saying that he was thinking about the game after the Powerplay and the way they pulled things back was amazing. Adds that the knock Prabhsimran played was brilliant. He then applauds the bowlers and says that they showed good maturity and commends the effort of Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar as well. Ends by saying that they need to keep calm and take it one game at a time.

Time for the presentations...

One of the stars of Punjab's win, Harpreet Brar is in next for a chat. He says that he enjoyed bowling on this surface. Shares that he was a bit nervous after conceding 13 runs in the first over. Mentions that he knew he could come back, having watched the first innings. States that his plan was to bowl dot balls and put the new batter under pressure. Also says that he tried to bring the batter on the front foot. Reckons that he and Rahul Chahar bowled well in partnership and credits Chahar for applying pressure which resulted in him getting the wickets.

David Warner, the skipper of Delhi is in for an interview. He says that they wanted to restrict Punjab to a lower total than this one. Adds that they got more than they should have and states that Prabhsimran Singh batted well. Feels that dropping catches did not help and when you lose 6 wickets for 30 after a good start, you are not going to win many games. Mentions that they will look to play with pride and play with freedom. Feels that it was another disappointing effort with the bat after the start they had. Ends by saying that they have found the right combination but they kept losing 4-5 wickets in the middle which is something you cannot do at this level.

Earlier in the game, David Warner won the toss and put Punjab into bat. This turned out to be a good decision as Ishant Sharma rocked Punjab early with a double breakthrough. However, Prabhsimran Singh played a blinder of a knock and single-handedly changed the momentum of the game in the first half. He went on to score a sensational ton and took his side to 167 runs, a solid score on a tough wicket. In the second half, it was a different story as Delhi started off well but then the slower bowlers shone through for Punjab and got them over the line.

Delhi will be absolutely gutted with this loss. David Warner came out all guns blazing and was brilliant upfront. Philip Salt too started off well but once he got out, the rest of the side simply crumbled against the spinners. Batters who came in at 3, 4, 5 and 6 didn't even get more than 5 runs individually and there was a lot of pressure on the lower middle order. The likes of Aman Khan and Pravin Dubey tried their best but it was simply a bridge too far. Warner was the only who got to fifty and this loss sums up Delhi's miserable season perfectly.

A comprehensive performance with the ball from Punjab and they have now given themselves a chance of making it to the playoffs with this crucial win. It wasn't the best of starts with the ball from them as their bowlers were hit for a flurry of boundaries early on. Once they got the first wicket though, the floodgates opened. Harpreet Brar was sensational in the middle phase and ended up picking four wickets. Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar were also brilliant with a couple of wickets each but it was the latter who spun the ball beautifully and made life difficult for the Delhi bowlers. All in all, a solid win, and Punjab will be fairly happy with that.

st Innings Punjab Kings

Welcome back for the chase. The Punjab players make their way out to the middle and they are joined by the two Delhi openers. David Warner and Philip Salt will open the innings for Delhi. Punjab bring on Nathan Ellis as their Impact Player, replacing Prabhsimran Singh. Rishi Dhawan will start with the new ball for Punjab. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Delhi will feel that they have the momentum courtesy of the late fightback with the ball. Having said that, this target of 168 is a tricky one and David Warner and Co. will need to bat smartly to get over the line. On the other hand, Punjab would have liked a few runs more but this is still a competitive total. An exciting second half of the game awaits us.

The star with the bat for Punjab, Prabhsimran Singh is in for a chat. He says that they lost a few early wickets and hence he decided to take a bit more time. Adds that he tried to punish the bad balls and that's the chat he had with the person at the other end. Mentions that the team backed him this season and he wants to perform regularly. Ends by saying that the pitch is a bit tough for batting but it is easier against the pacers.

For Delhi, it was Ishant Sharma who set the tone early for them, striking twice in his first two overs. Having reduced Punjab to 45-3, the hosts looked in control of the proceedings but failing to pick wickets during the middle phase hurt them a lot. To be honest, they had no answers to the brilliance of Prabhsimran Singh. After dismissing him, they pulled things back nicely by conceding only 13 runs in the last two overs. Ishant Sharma was one of the better performers on the night, accounting for two wickets.

Delhi finish on a high and they have done well to keep Punjab under 170! After Punjab were put into bat by David Warner, the visitors were rocked early, losing three wickets inside the Powerplay. Prabhsimran Singh and Sam Curran then got together a forged a solid recovery with a 72-run stand. Prabhsimran was the aggressor of the two batters and kept finding boundaries at will. Despite losing wickets at the other end, Prabhsimran stood strong and stroked his way towards his maiden Indian T20 League hundred. However, his dismissal in the 19th over meant Punjab were unable to maximize towards the end.

On the other hand, Punjab are coming off consecutive losses and will look to turn their fortunes around with a win in this clash. They are slightly better placed than the hosts but even they cannot afford any more slip-ups. Shikhar Dhawan has led from the front with the bat and will expect others to put their hand up. With the ball, they have blown hot and cold and will need to put in their best performance here. Can Punjab deliver the knockout punch to Delhi? Let’s find out. Toss and teams coming up shortly.

After two wins on the bounce, Delhi suffered their 7th loss of the season which has put them on the brink of elimination. One more loss for the David Warner-led side will bring an end to their qualification hopes. Their top order has found form at the right time and will hold the key in this fixture. Moreover, their bowling has shown signs of improvement in the past few games which is a big plus for them.

Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to our coverage of match number 59 of the 2023 Indian T20 League, where Delhi lock horns with Punjab at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Both teams are in desperate need of two points so expect a tightly fought contest this evening.

... MATCH DAY …

We are in the final phase of the Indian T20 League and the top four teams are still not confirmed as everyone still has a say in it. It is time now for Delhi to take on Punjab in back-to-back matches and we will be talking about the first game which is going to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Delhi suffered defeat in their last game against Chennai where their batting let them down. Their bowling was impressive though as Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav all used the spinning conditions well and they will be crucial again. Ishant Sharma has been decent so far and Mukesh Kumar has also done well but in patches. They have an explosive batting line-up but they haven't been consistent enough. David Warner and Philip Salt need to give them a good start while Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw hold their middle order. Mitchell Marsh has played a couple of good knocks but he has been more effective with the ball as he is their highest wicket-taker so far. They will hope that he can deliver with the bat too in the last few games and they have also missed Anrich Nortje in the last two matches but if he is available then Rossouw will have to miss out and that is a crucial decision they need to take in this game. Punjab, on the other hand, are coming into this game on the back of a heartbreaking loss against Kolkata on the last ball of the match. Arshdeep almost defended five runs against Dre Russ and Rinku Singh. Shikhar Dhawan has been their leading scorer but they will need more from players like Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Matthew Short or Bhanuka Rajapaksa whoever plays. Jitesh Sharma has been one of the stories of this season so far as he is playing as a six-hitting machine, which has helped them get out of trouble on a few occasions. Nathan Ellis has done really well in the absence of Kagiso Rabada but if the latter is fit, he can make their bowling attack even stronger. Rahul Chahar hasn't picked up that many wickets but he has been economical along with Harpreet Brar. They could also think about playing Sikandar Raza as he has helped them to a victory a couple of times. This is a crucial game for both teams in the context of qualifying for the playoffs. Let's see who comes out on top.
