Bangladesh did start a little loosely with their lines and lengths, though Shoriful Islam did strike early to provide the breakthrough. The real shift in momentum came when Mustafizur Rahman was introduced for the final over of the Powerplay and dismissed Harry Tector. From there on, Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain tightened the screws as the pitch offered a hint of turn, with Rishad producing a superb spell to claim three crucial wickets, while Mahedi chipped in with one of his own. The Irish batters were given no breathing space as scoring became increasingly difficult. Mustafizur returned in his second spell to add two more to his tally, and Mohammad Saifuddin finished the job with one of his own to round off a thoroughly dominant bowling display. Adding to Ireland’s misery, the ball seemed to follow just one man in the field - Tanzid Hasan, who snapped up five catches in the match. Rishad Hossain of Bangladesh is up for a quick chat. He says that it is his role to bowl in the middle overs and get wickets. Adds that he has worked on his variations, and it is paying off now. Mentions that they have BPL before the World Cup, so whatever fine-tuning they need, the players can do in that tournament, but feels they are ready for the big event. Ends by saying that he is confident that the batters will chase this down and they will win the series.

Ireland began briskly, with Paul Stirling setting the tempo at the top as they surged to 50/1 inside five overs. But the momentum fizzled out soon after. While the skipper tried to anchor the innings, wickets kept tumbling at the other end, with batters getting starts but failing to build on them. The pressure kept mounting and eventually Stirling was forced into a risky shot, falling for 38 off 27, the top score of the innings. George Dockrell chipped in with a few handy runs late on, but with seven batters stuck in single figures, Ireland were always behind the curve and were eventually bundled out for 117.

Bangladesh have produced a commanding bowling display in this series decider, and you would say they now have one hand firmly on the trophy. It is just the kind of performance they would have hoped for in their final T20I before turning their focus to the 2026 World Cup.

2 matches done, series level 1-1. Surprised? One ought to be, especially if the fan is a supporter of Bangladesh cricket. Often not being kept in the same mould as the 'big' nations, Bangladesh usually enjoy a healthy record at home in every format. Leave aside the previous series against West Indies, where the Caribbeans whitewashed them, they have not lost a home series in T20Is since March 2024. Which is why, their big loss in the first T20I to Ireland comes more of a shock than a surprise. However, their comeback in the second game was phenomenal, though the bowling still seems to be a bit of a concern. That brings the pitch into equation. This is officially Bangladesh's last series in any format before the T20 World Cup in February and normally, in this side of the world, one sees pitches which are sluggish and turning in nature. But maybe, just maybe, because of the World Cup angle, the recent pitches have been prepared to try and make the players acclimatize to what they could get in the mega tournament. It is a good thing, in a way, but confidence is also needed. Having won just 1 of their last 5 T20Is does not give them confidence and that is one thing skipper Litton Das will want to correct before ending this series. There is no question of inexperience at all, as the big names and the consistent ones have been in the circuit for more than 2 years now and delivering as well. So it has got to come down to adaptation and accordingly, loss of form. The batters showed their form in the previous game and now, it is time for the bowlers to demonstrate that irrespective of how flat the pitch might be, they can adapt and deliver as well. Coming to Ireland, hello - they are also a part of the T20 World Cup, right? So why focus only on the home team? For them, this is a very good series to practice for the mega event, which would be played in similar conditions. And fairplay to them, despite struggling in this format for a while now, they have given a good account of themselves in both the matches of this series. They were overpowered in the Tests but that is history for now. The main focus would be the upcoming World Cup and a series win would put them in great shape for the tournament, especially looking at their group which has Australia, Sri Lanka, Oman and Zimbabwe. If the Irish do manage to win the series here, they would fancy themselves to go into the second round looking at that group. As always, the batting usually stamps its authority but in the first game, the bowlers actually made use of the conditions nicely. They are getting some decent spinners in their ranks but dew let them down in the last match. However, given that the third match is an afternoon game, the batters could actually have a trial by spin. That might have us see an extra spinner in the ranks of both teams - not that Bangladesh need the pitch to see that combination. Despite the loss in the first game, Bangladesh start as favourites but if Ireland batters manage to play out the home side's spinners well, we could actually have a cracker of what can be called as a finale.
