Commentary
Right then, that is it from this game and also from India's tour of Australia. The hosts won the ODI series and the visitors took the T20I series with them and the focus now shifts to different ventures for both these teams. India will fly back home and gear up for an all-format series against the Proteas, whereas the Aussies will look to get in top shape for the upcoming Ashes series. For now, we bid adieu and hope that you enjoyed our coverage of this series. However, you can easily switch tabs and tune in to our coverage of the ODI series decider between Pakistan and South Africa. Cheers!
Next up, India's captain, Suryakumar Yadav goes on to collect the T20I series winning trophy and joins his teammates in celebration.
The Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, says the way this series started, they wanted the game to be completed at Canberra, but appreciates the way every one chipped in with crucial contributions at different times. Says that all the players know their roles pretty well, be it bowlers or batters. Adds that Arshdeep and Bumrah together are a lethal combination, and the spinners are doing really well too, as they bring a lot of variations to the table. Regarding the squad to be picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup, SKY calls it a good headache to have with respect to that, as a lot of players are doing pretty good currently. Shares that they have a couple of more series lined up before the main event, which will offer them a great buildup. Mentions that they saw what happened in the Women's World Cup, where India won the title at home, and shares that there is a lot of excitement, but equally, there is a lot of responsibility to play in front of the home crowd.
The Australian skipper, Mitchell Marsh, says that all in all, it was a great series and India won when it mattered most, so kudos to them. Adds that they have a lot of learnings and positives to take away from this series and is happy with how the guys that have come in have done a solid job, and the focus now shifts to the Ashes for them. Mentions that they have a pretty settled team for now and will look to have fun in the upcoming Big Bash League. On being asked about the T20 captaincy, Marsh candidly says that even when Pat Cummins returns, he will still be the T20I captain.
India's Abhishek Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for his consistent performances with the bat. He scored 163 runs in the series, at an average of 40.75. He starts by saying that he enjoyed playing in Australia and adds that he was eagerly waiting for this series. Also shares that he has seen that Australia has very good batting pitches and that he was practising hard for that. Admits that they could have got better totals in between. On facing Hazlewood, he says that the way he was bowling, he enjoyed the battle with someone who is one of the best bowlers in the world. Details that the coach and the captain gave him the responsibility to start freely in the Powerplay and gave him the clarity to express himself. Says it will be a dream come true for him if he features in the upcoming T20 World Cup, as that is one of the biggest tournaments. Ends by saying that he will make sure to make himself ready for it.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Mitchell Marsh once again won the toss and opted to bowl first, which was always going to be the case given the overhead conditions. India, however, began positively and Shubman Gill looked in sublime touch. Abhishek Sharma, on the other hand, played his natural game and was lucky to see a couple of fairly straightforward chances being put down. Just when the 5th over was about to end, there was lightning around the ground, which forced the umpires to halt play and minutes later, it started raining and from that moment on, it was always a matter of whether there would be enough of a gap between showers to get some play in and unfortunately, there wasn't.
Right then, India's white-ball tour of Australia ends on a damp note but after losing the ODI series 2-1, India have come back to seal the T20I series and given the T20 World Cup is just a few months away, this series will give the Indians a huge boost. On the other hand, Australia would have also got a fair idea of what challenges they will face in that upcoming World Cup and will be eager to tinker things if they are to beat India in sub-continental conditions.
UPDATE - 4.20 pm IST (10.50 am GMT) - There's the dreaded news and the MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED! What a shame for everyone involved and the five-match series has ended up being a three-match series as we have had two washouts and it is India who clinch the T20I series 2-1. The forecast was always for rain late in the evening and people might have already expected a curtailed clash but eventually, the rain was just unrelenting and the umpires had to take the decisive call.
UPDATE - 4.07 pm IST (10.37 am GMT) - Tick-tock, tick-tock! Frustratingly, we are now racing against time, and even a 5-over shootout looks highly unlikely as the rain has picked up once again. We are afraid that we are not too far away from that dreaded, unfortunate piece of update as well. So, if it gets called off, India will win the series, which will be very disappointing from an Australian point of view. And of course, a bummer of a conclusion of a series between the top two T20I sides in the world.
UPDATE - 3.55 pm IST (10.25 am GMT) - Umm... hate to say it, but the optimism is waning away now. The second inning would have surely gotten underway by now. Looking at the radar, it doesn't look like we will get any cricket from this point. But again, the weather can spring a lot of surprises. Let's... hope. This is the only thing we have been doing since the last hour and a half. Arghh!
Not much to speak of right now, as the rain continues steadily. But we can surely take a sneak peek at what's happening in the cricketing world elsewhere. At Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, the third and final ODI between Pakistan and South Africa is currently underway. The series is locked in at 1-1, and this is the crucial decider. South Africa won the toss and have opted to bat first. You can switch the tabs and follow all the live action from that game. And please, pray that the rain stops soon in Brisbane.
UPDATE - 3.29 pm IST (9.59 am GMT) - Visuals from the ground now show that the rain has stopped but the covers are still on and there is no sign of ground staff being in a hurry to start the mop-up job. Let's hope that they aren't expecting further rain and are letting Gabba's drainage just do its job for now. Stay tuned for more updates.
UPDATE - 3.09 pm IST (9.39 am GMT) - There is a large cheer from the crowd and it looks like the rain has stopped for now, which is great news. However, given the forecast, there's plenty more to come and just a minute later, it has started raining again. Can't catch a proper break this rain. A couple of minutes later, the Mexican Wave is going around the crowd, not quite sure whether that's because the rain has stopped again or just to keep themselves entertained. Either way, the crowd does seem optimistic.
UPDATE - 2.50 pm IST (9.20 am GMT) - The rain has been steady for 15-20 minutes now and seems to have picked up in intensity as well. Hopefully, it is a heavy shower that flies away soon and the skies clear out a bit so that we can have some hope about any sort of resumption in play. Meanwhile, on-air, Matthew Hayden is discussing the prowess of Gabba's drainage system and mentions that since the surface was relayed, the water just slides off the covers the moment rain stops and it all gets cleared out pretty soon. This is the reason just the pitch is under covers and nothing else.
UPDATE - 2.30 pm IST (9 am GMT) - The visuals from The Gabba now indicate that it has started raining as well. It doesn't seem heavy for now but it does seem persistent. The wait goes on and in all likelihood, it will go on for a fair while more. Fingers crossed, folks, fingers crossed.
UPDATE - 2.20 pm IST (8.50 am GMT) - Wow, things are starting to look pretty gloomy as there is a warning on the big screen at the ground. The message warns that the weather conditions are severe and asks everyone to take shelter and not stay in open areas for now. Even the players are asked to go indoors and a few of the stands are emptying up as people move further inside. Hopefully, the clouds along with the lightning move quickly and pass soon, because if things stay like this, we might be in for a long delay. Stick around as we bring you the latest news from the ground.
UPDATE - 2.10 pm IST (8.40 am GMT) - A halt in play and that's due to lightning, which is dangerous enough for the umpires to stop the game. Also, there is a large and angry bank of clouds coming in towards The Gabba, which means we might see rain pretty soon, and according to the radar, it could be heavy showers. The umpires take the players off the field and the ground staff make their way onto the field of play, gearing up to cover things up in case it does rain. Let's hope that it does not rain and conditions are soon fit for play again. Stay tuned for further updates.

Ben Dwarshuis to Abhishek Sharma, IN THE AIR... AND DROPPED! Glenn Maxwell of all people. This one slightly nips into the batter from off, on a fuller length. Abhishek Sharma again shapes to go downtown, but does not get his bat underneath the ball and airs it high in the night sky towards mid off. The ball hangs up for an eternity and Glenn Maxwell has enough time to settle under it. He backtracks, but eventually drops it. A single taken. A big reprieve for Abhishek in the first over itself. But that should have been taken by Maxwell's standards.

Ben Dwarshuis to Abhishek Sharma, BEATEN! Great start from Dwarshuis! Swings away from off, on a good length. Abhishek Sharma stays in the crease, creates room for himself to go over covers, but misses as the ball shapes away late.
All in readiness for the game to begin! The radar is still quite bleak ahead, but thankfully, for now, there's no precipitation. The umpires are out in the middle and so are the Australian players. It will be the duo of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma to open the innings for India. Ben Dwarshuis will get things underway with the new ball. Let's play...
India (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Rinku Singh (In for Tilak Varma), Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Australia (Unchanged Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh (C), Matthew Short, Josh Inglis (WK), Tim David, Josh Philippe, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa.
The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav, says until and unless you are winning the games and losing the toss, it is all good and doesn't matter. Adds that the team looks good and they just want to go out there and express themselves in the middle. Mentions that it is always good to understand what the team's goals are. Highlighting the previous game, SKY reflects that every batter realised that it wasn't a 200 kind of a wicket and that they responded brilliantly with the bat, and that they ticked all the boxes in that game. Says it is good to win the bilaterals, but also stresses on seeing what combinations you got to take forward. Adds that everyone is doing well and is understanding their roles really well in the team. Also details that barring the openers, every batter needs to be flexible in this format. Ends by informing that they have one change - Tilak Varma is out and Rinku Singh is in the XI.
The Aussie skipper, Mitchell Marsh, says they will bowl first as this looks like a good surface. Adds that both teams have played good cricket in this series and hopes to end it on a high. Regarding the previous game, Marsh says that they should have chased better and goes on to inform that they are playing the same side.
TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favor of Australia, and Mitchell Marsh opts to BOWL first.
PITCH REPORT - Former Indian wicket-keeper, Parthiv Patel, is inspecting the deck. He says that the pitch looks hard and has an even covering of grass on it as well. Adds that there are some cracks in the middle as well, which will aid the pacers early on, but the batters will be able to score freely once they settle in.
Australia and the Gabba - name a better duo, we will wait. They’ve lost here just once in eight T20Is since 2006, and yep, that lone blemish came against West Indies way back in 2013. Out of 11 T20Is at this venue, only thrice has a target been chased successfully. Well then, the goals are pretty clear in both camps. Can India crash the Gabba party this time, or will the Aussies keep their fortress fortified? Stay tuned for all the answers, but first, toss and team updates are coming up shortly. And let's hope that the weather doesn't spoil this one. Stay tuned.
India might have an edge in the series, but… there's always a but lurking beneath the surface. The middle order has been inconsistent and hasn’t massively supported the openers’ consolidation. Abhishek and Gill are the only blokes to have crossed a hundred runs in the series, but the gulf after that is big. And that's a concern they can't afford to ignore. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar have been the saviors, not only with the ball, but stepping up with those vital contributions with the bat to prevent total collapse. And despite missing Kuldeep Yadav, this particular bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah and three proper spinners seems to be blending well enough. While in absence of Hardik Pandya, the role of an all-rounder has been sincerely executed by Shivam Dube - a floater with the bat, and decently effective with the ball. India will hope that this combination clicks yet again, but also would want to iron out some wrinkles.
With the Ashes preps driving the agenda, Australia rang the changes for these last two T20Is, with Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa’s returns being the headline acts. But a few vulnerabilities were exposed, revealing some uncomfortable truths. Chief among them is a glaring vulnerability against quality spin, as they lost six wickets against spinners in Gold Coast. On the flip side, there are positives to build on. The top order keeps firing, fueled by Mitchell Marsh's purple patch and Matthew Short's promotion as opener, paying dividends. Tim David has been their best bat in the series, while Nathan Ellis has shouldered the bowling load with relentless consistency. Nothing's broken, but the cracks are visible. It's all about sealing those gaps and tightening up before they step into the cauldron at The Gabba.
2018/19. Circle that date. That's when Australia last tasted a series victory over India in the T20I format. Fast forward to now, and the Aussies are staring down the barrel as India lead by 2-1. The equation is pretty clear for the hosts - win to avoid defeat and keep their remarkable series-winning streak alive. For India, the math is straightforward as well. One win separates them from the series trophy and extends their unbeaten dominance in the format that's been rolling since 2023.
An hour's drive. Two worlds apart in Queensland. We leave Carrara, a cricketing footnote, and roll into Brisbane, where The Gabba lurks beside the river like a colosseum of rich cricketing history. The Wolloongabba has seen blood, sweat, and miracles. Carrara? Barely has a pulse in comparison. And now, with the Brisbane River cutting across the city with overcast skies, we arrive at the main event - Australia versus India. Fifth T20I. The final battle. On that note, we welcome you all to our coverage for one final time in this series.
... MATCH DAY ...
The five-match T20I series between arch-rivals Australia and India reaches its pulsating climax with the 5th T20I at the iconic The 'Gabba, Brisbane. With India holding a crucial 2-1 lead heading into the final match, the hosts have a big task ahead, while the Men in Blue look to secure a famous series victory on Australian soil. India's clinical performance in the 4th T20I, where the spinners Axar Patel and Washington Sundar spun a web around the Australian middle order, has given them the crucial momentum. For Australia, the final match is now about pride and squaring the ledger to avoid a home series loss. Historically, the' Gabba surface is quick and offers genuine bounce, encouraging stroke play and rewarding fast bowlers who hit the deck hard. However, it will also test the batters' technique against the short ball. The venue often favors the team batting first, as the pitch can occasionally slow down later. The atmosphere is always electric for Australia-India clashes, adding an extra layer of intensity. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India's young brigade has shown remarkable courage and adaptability. The series has been a critical testing ground for India ahead of the next T20 World Cup, and the players have stepped up. Axar Patel has been the standout performer, contributing with both economical bowling and crucial late-order hitting. Washington Sundar's all-round contribution has also been impactful. For the hosts, led by Mitchell Marsh, the 'Gabba represents a final chance for redemption and a momentum boost. The home side has struggled to find consistency, particularly with the bat. Australia will desperately need their star batters, particularly Marsh and the in-form Tim David, to fire and dominate the Powerplay and middle overs to challenge India's bowling depth. The contest between India's quality spin attack and Australia's powerful, but sometimes vulnerable, middle order will likely dictate the outcome. Additionally, Mitchell Marsh vs Jasprit Bumrah in the Powerplay will be a captivating duel. India are riding a wave of confidence and superior form, particularly after their clinical dismantling of Australia in the 4th T20I. Their varied bowling attack, combining pace and world-class spin, seems better equipped to handle the pressure. Australia, playing at their familiar hunting ground, will be fighting with all their might to draw the series. Will India clinch another historic T20I series win in the Land Down Under? Or will the Aussies roar back and finish on a high against the T20 World Champions? Only time will tell.
