The BJP, with its aggressive entry into the state’s politics this year, is seen as posing a threat to the ruling Left Front in Tripura. The Congress, on the other hand, is in a state of disarray, troubled by infighting and resentment against the party leadership.
"The party (BJP) only serve the interests of the corporates, so they grab the tribal lands in the country and allot it to corporates and ruling the country by dividing people on the line of religion, caste and creed," the Tripura Chief Minister alleged.
The party had on Saturday declared names of 44 candidates. It has said it will fields its candidates on 51 seats, leaving remainder nine for its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), which claims to represent the state's tribal population.
Tripura polls: The BJP is yet to announce candidates for seven seats. Sources said multiple names are being considered for these seats and party leaders were unable to arrive at a consensus on Saturday.

The BJP refrained from announcing a chief ministerial candidate for the state elections.
"The state is worst in most of the governance indicators — whether it is unemployment, security for women or implementation of central schemes."
A joint statement on the matter will be signed soon by the authorised signatories of both parties, BJP state in-charge Sunil Deodhar said.
The Election Commission on Thursday announced the date for Tripura assembly elections.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also appointed BJP’s in-charge for Tripura assembly elections, said doors were open for other anti-Left Front forces in order to oust the CPI(M)-led government of Manika Sarkar in the state.
The minister's hard-hitting comment on Tripura government came as the state is preparing to go to Assembly poll soon.
The BJP is also holding discussions with other tribal parties as part of efforts to stitch a strong social alliance to unseat the Left government, which has had an uninterrupted reign of 25 years.

Tripura, CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat said, was a symbol of peace and harmony in a region which had a history of ethnic conflicts.
