The legal rights organisation had produced a report titled, ‘Humanity under attack in Tripura’ on the purported attacks on Muslim establishments and the alleged impact of the violence in Tripura.
The PUCL claimed that their fact-finding report held a few Hindu organisations responsible for unleashing violence in many areas where a mosque and a few houses and shops owned by the minorities were vandalised.
The case was registered at the West Agartala Police Station on November 3 against social media posts purportedly circulated and statements made by the lawyers during their visit to Tripura.
The NHRC letter comes amid repeated assertions of the Tripura government that there is no communal tension in the state in the wake of the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
Appealing to people to stay away from spreading fake news and rumours, the police have also warned that strict action would be taken against those trying to "create hatred in the society".

After hearing counsels of the petitioner and the state respondents, the court permitted TMC to hold its rally after it gave an undertaking that it would not assembly more than 500 people.
However, TMC leaders said they would go ahead with the event in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala, since they had prior permission to hold a rally there.
The high court commended the state government’s efforts in restoring peace and order, but said more steps are necessary and suggested the formation of peace committees
“We have formed a five-member team from the party's minority cell and asked them to see what led to violence in the state. They have been asked to assess the situation and submit a report in three days,” a Lok Sabha MP Vinod Sonkar, who is the party in-charge of Tripura, told The Indian Express.
Tripura Police have requested people of all communities not to support such fake social media IDs and not spread such fake pictures.
There are also reports that peace meetings are being held in sensitive areas.
CPM legislator Ratan Das said they have already met the State Election Commission to ensure a peaceful polling and said the law and order situation in the state is dangerous.
Heavy security has been deployed in sensitive areas to avoid further deterioration of the law and order situation, said Panisagar SDPO.

Reacting on the issue, ruling BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said he hopes no one disrupts law and order and said his party activists, especially from the Minority Morcha, are keeping close relations with everyone across the state.

The VHP, Hindu Jagran Manch and other organisations took out the rally this afternoon in Tripura's Udaipur.
The court instructed the governments to form a team of appropriate officials who will have to visit the areas where people of the community inhabit, make an assessment on their needs and submit the findings in an affidavit by November 9.
"The Bangladesh PM has a good relation with us. I'm sure the Bangladesh administration will take all necessary steps," said Deb.
