Two policemen in Jharkhand’s Latehar district have been suspended after an Adivasi woman alleged officers beat and sexually harassed her in custody while questioning her about poppy cultivation. Chief Minister Hemant Soren ordered action. Police said a joint inquiry is underway and acknowledged the raid may have violated NDPS procedures by proceeding without a gazetted officer or magistrate.
