This is the second NLFT surrender this month after four NLFT militants surrendered on October 2 to the Tripura Police with arms and ammunition. Three other cadres of the same outfit had surrendered two weeks prior to that.
The move comes ahead of TIPRA Motha's scheduled three-day demonstration, towards the end of this month, involving over 1,000 supporters and workers at Jantar Mantar over the demand for a 'Greater Tipraland'.
The Trinamool Congress and civil society bodies also said those who are involved in the violence should be brought to book and steps taken to protect the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a meeting held in Agartala on Saturday.
“Five persons were reported to have died in four accidents. Among these, one person fell beneath a Durga Puja idol at Lefunga. Two others died when a vehicle rolled down a gorge. Two others were killed in road accidents,” the official said.
