Rupak Jain, his wife and key accused Sonia, and a third accused Devendra Kumar had been sent to judicial custody by a magistrate on October 24 for allegedly blackmailing Shekhar with confidential information to extort Rs 10 crore.
When contacted, Nishant Tyagi, head of corporate communications for Prateek Builders, however, said, “We can assure that none of the construction work being undertaken is adding to pollution... rest of our process has been halted.”
The standoff is part of a long-standing dispute between farmers and the realty group, which purchased the land in 2005-06. On Sunday, the company reclaimed the land and, villagers alleged, damaged crops worth lakhs.
An AC passenger bus belonging to Shatabdi Travels was carrying passengers from Delhi to Kanpur when it collided into a cement truck at 12.30 am, near Jewar. The bus skidded and hit the barricade on the side of the road.
The victim, Ashutosh, was driving his White Creta car from Pari Chowk to Delhi. At 3.30 am, the car hit a divider and fell into an open space next to the road. Ashutosh was rushed to Jaypee Hospital, and died during treatment.
Paytm 'extortion' case: With three people, including a vice-president with Paytm, being sent to judicial custody, police said they are now trying to verify claims by the accused's family that they were blackmailed.
According to police, the security guards allegedly obtained drugs from a local source and sold it to students of the university. Police are looking into the accused’s call records and contacts to trace the alleged buyers.
Speaking to The Indian Express, SSP (Gautam Budh Nagar) Ajay Pal Sharma said: “Around two months ago, she asked her bosses for financial help to buy a flat. But they ignored it, which could have been a trigger.”
The three arrested accused were identified as Sonia Dhawan, who started as Vijay’s secretary and is currently vice-president, corporate communications/PR; her husband Rupak Jain; and Devendra Kumar, an employee with Paytm’s administration department.
The victim, Arsha, hailed form Jalgaon in Maharashtra, and was travelling with her family. The injured were sent to the District Hospital in Noida, and five were referred to a government hospital in south Delhi.
