BJP minority cell member Sheikh Amir Ali was beaten up following a clash allegedly between workers of the ruling TMC and BJP on Sunday. Ali, an e-rickshaw driver, had succumbed to his injuries at Calcutta Medical College in Kolkata.
At a joint press conference after attending a meeting at the RSP office in Kolkata, Left Front chairman Biman Bose and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) president Somen Mitra said that they will “jointly fight” against the contentious “National Register of Citizens (NRC), communal polarisation and lack of jobs across the state”.
He asked the Union Home Ministry to open a helpline number for families of other Bengal labourers who are stuck in Kashmir. He also organised a candle-light vigil at Sagardighi village on Wednesday evening.
Karat was speaking to reporters after addressing a public meeting at the Jawaharlal Nehru University organised by students’ union against the BJP government’s decision on J&K.

According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Sheikh Insan. He was allegedly caught in the crossfire and received a bullet injury.
According to police, the pick-up van, which was moving at a high speed, was carrying nine passengers. The driver and a passenger died, while the rest eight were injured. Six of them were admitted to the CNMCH, while two were released after first aid. Five of the injured are residents of Hasnabad in South 24 Parganas.
According to police, both the victims had received injuries to their neck and face while bursting tubris (clay flowerpot crackers).

Blaming the TMC workers for the murder, the BJP has called for a 12-hour bandh in Arambagh on Wednesday, even as the ruling party has denied the allegations, calling it a “fallout of personal enmity”.

The comments from Banerjee came months after BJP candidate Raju Bista won the Lok Sabha polls from Darjeeling instead of local GJM leader Amar Singh Rai, who contested the election on a TMC ticket.
